RE: ND QB Everett Golson no longer at the school
ND has another highly rated freshman QB, Malik Zaire, on the roster. So I doubt they'll fall off the map. But whether Zaire can earn the starting job or not is open to question at the moment...

It was none of that, Quo. ND takes academic issues very seriously.
They kicked out starting RB Julius Jones in 2002 for a year for not meeting ND's academic requirements.
He was still NCAA eligible, academically. Just not for ND. He sat out one year and came back in 2003.
ND does stuff like this regarding academics.
Not saying it is right or wrong (not trying to be "holier than thou"), better or worse, that is just the way it is.
Oh so cheating they take seriously but not kicking a cop in the nuts or raping women. Good thing they have their priorities in check.

There was no rape. Lizzy Seeberg alleged that a player touched her breast. Whether she made it up or it was true (either way), it was no rape.
Tommy Rees was cited for misdemeanors in the minor in possession and resisting an officer charges and disciplined.
You say you are a Rutgers fan? Glass houses?
Are you always a jerk or just when ND is the subject?

How many schools would do that?
Not looking for you to applaud ND but you are a cheap shot artist here.

More than just one girl has claimed rape over the years.
I'm a Rutgers fan, but unlike you I don't claim to know everything about the school I didn't attend. I root for their FB team, but i'm a Johnny through and through.
If you think i'm a jerk because i'm not eating up the ND spin? Im sorry but Residence Life in the Catholic school I went to had nothing to do with cheating. I know because I know people who had been caught cheating. Also, they never even mentioned cheating, you have. They just said residence life issue.
Tommy Reese and a linebacker whose name escapes me fought cops who were breaking up a party.
You can say what you want about me but a lot of other folks are on my side when it comes to ND and it's practice of covering up for it's players transgressions. Especially when it comes to sexual assault.

Just me, huh? Every report is that it is an academic issue:
" Golson no longer is enrolled at Notre Dame for what two sources told the Tribune was an academic violation. The school officially confirmed Golson is no longer a student but offered no more details, including when or if Golson can return. But a source indicated Sunday that the door is not closed on the quarterback’s possible return to the school at a later date.
It’s believed that Golson’s predicament is similar to those faced by former Irish players Darrin Walls and Gary Gray, which would mean a one-semester banishment with the opportunity to reapply to the school in the future. Both Walls and Gray missed a full semester – not just summer school – after what were reportedly disciplinary issues related to academics."

Thats not true. Schools have published why a student has been kicked out of school. They are private so they don't have to say why. Public schools have to relinquish info under the FOI act, private schools do not. Thats how we know about Cam Newton and UF.

Lol, you have a nice evening as well.
I probably owe you an apology. My original intent wasn't meant to be as harsh as my post implied. I should have just said "Good luck to the kid, but I don't have a huge amount of sympathy for him or ND, from a football stance". If the kid cheated, ND did the right thing. I applaud them for sticking to the honor code.
Mea Culpa.

Mea Culpa.
No problem, man. Take care.

I just saw on the news that it was academic and that he plans on being back for next year. In the mean time a quarterback from Lake Forest, IL will be the quarterback for Notre Dame.

Well, yes.
These are universities. Universities are not the police, and they certainly are not the morality police (most of them are awful at that). Punishing students who commit moral violations is only relevant at universities that have moral codes of conduct (like BYU).
The primary business of universities is to conduct academic research, educate students about that research, and to certify students' knowledge of topics (through granting diplomas). Cheating puts those certifications in doubt in the minds of those who employ a university's graduates.
Darn right they punish cheating more than moral/legal issues. Cheating actually impacts their primary mission.

Quote:On Sunday, a coach from an SEC school contacted a person close to the Notre Dame program to inquire about Golson. He did enough in completing 58.8 percent of his passes for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns with six interceptions in his first year to pique the hopes of Irish fans and the interest of those wondering if he wants a change of scenery.
Interesting...

FWIW, Brian Kelly just denied in a press conference this afternoon that "he or anyone in the compliance department" were contacted by anyone about Golson.
My understanding is that Everett Golson (since he has been suspended by ND) has to sit out a year and lose a year of eligibility whether the returns to ND or transfers to another school.
Golson says he wants to return to ND in January and Kelly says its up to Golson to do what is necessary to return (whatever that is).
Time will tell.
