Its not just the violence. Its an entirely inappropriate intolerance of differing opinions and hostility towards those who think differently.

I had an economics professor who had worked in the Kennedy administration. On election day, he said jokingly, "From all the Republican buttons, I can tell that a lot of you weren't paying attention." That was reasonable and it was said in a light hearted manner. And he was a professor who presented the Keynesians and Monetarists with equal fervor. So he had shown an even handedness.

We are just a few years away from multiple professors being fired/forced to resign from their positions for calling COVID the “Wuhan Virus”. While that statement may have been culturally insensitive, it did not actively call for the execution of people who hold different political beliefs.

He or she would be fired, ruined, and lucky to escape tar and feathering.

Nevertheless, cancelling has to stop and consistency in the treatment of instances like the Kansas professor is a necessary requirement, I believe.
