Most toilet paper is manufactured in the US no need for the dockworkers to be involved in the supply chain. Baby items in areas near Hurricane Helene's path are in short-supply already, due to well meaning people buying large quantities to send to the disaster areas. A lot of the shortages can be attributed to a sudden surge in demand not so much supply chain issues caused by longshoreman strike. Shortages in certain food products will let you know what US brands are really imported from China, India, etc.

you are thoroughly underestimating the stupidity of the general population. They hear "shortage" and they panic. The TP maker and storage facility could be in their own town and they will still panic an hoard TP.

It is a Karen / climate freak/ democratic bonanza.

So---what daily use items might we need to be concerned about if the strike drags on too long?

"what daily use items"

You asked good question, Coffee I guess. I listed some things yesterday and I can't think of anything from that list I would need on a daily bases. 04-cheers

This is false it will not impact the 01-rivals paper supply but there has be a "run" on toilet paper at some Costcos. I was at a Walmart here in Charlotte, I actually needed toilet paper but the entire 01-rivals paper aisle was cleared out. The surest way to create a shortage is panic buying 2 or 3x as much as you need and telling friends to do the same before supplies run out. No commodity can handle a sudden large surge in demand due to panic buying.

Something has hit the fan

Pretty soon Big Pharma will be buying up toilet paper manufacturers and starting the rumors themselves. LOL

Bananas are fine. They come in through Gulfport. No striking in Gulfport.

Nope. 14 states in the US. Both of my Cajun Grandparents were basically slaves that were born on Sugar Plantations in Louisiana. Sugar Cane. They lived in what amounts to a shed out near the field.

RE: Dock Workers Strike
Now GOOD cheese is a different story. That comes from overseas. What people don't realize is that this "Strike" has really been going on now for nearly two weeks. The workers "slacked off" the week before the "Strike". That's why there were ships docks out in the Gulf of Galveston prior to the strike. This will start hitting soon. Especially in the Southeast due to the supply issues of the Hurricane since stores with supplies will be taken from them to send to the areas that have the damage with no stores.

RE: Dock Workers Strike
Dockworkers Strike, Day 3: Kamala Loves the Strikers, but the Feeling Isn't Mutual

Quote:It's all about "fair share" with Kamala Harris. She, of course, wants you, the American taxpayer, to pay your fair share of taxes; what she means by that is something she simply cannot articulate. We all know what she means when she says it: she wants you to shoulder a tax burden that is actually unfair.

And, now, she wants striking dockworkers to get their "fair share" of the profits earned by the companies that keep the longshoreman gainfully employed. Here's her statement from Wednesday:

“This strike is about fairness. Foreign-owned shipping companies have made record profits and executive compensation has grown. The Longshoremen, who play a vital role transporting essential goods across America, deserve a fair share of these record profits.”

It's your standard Democrat-commie fare, with evil corporations -- many of whom actually pay big bucks into the political coffers of the Democrat Party -- depriving hardworking men and women of their fair share. Never mind the fact that the dockworkers have already received their share of the profits in the form of stable jobs with good pay and great benefits, Kamala wants their votes on November 5 and will say or do anything to get them.

Not a shred of sympathy from the sitting vice president for what the average American family might face if the strike continues for a prolonged period of time, such as bare shelves at the grocery store and skyrocketing prices for goods and services. Many families are already reeling from the Biden/Harris economy, but there's no time for them when there are union votes to buy.

Her statement then went on to bash Donald Trump for not supporting American workers. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

It's clear that Kamala is all in on courting union votes; she finds herself in the precarious position of not getting an endorsement from the Teamsters Union, which opted not to endorse a presidential candidate despite the rank-and-file union members favoring Trump. Losing union support is a problem for Democrats, who are fast losing the mantle of being the party of the working man.

Kamala's got some ground to make up, and she's doing that by supporting the dockworkers strike, consequences be damned.

If you're wondering how the strikers are feeling about Kamala, well, here's what one reporter found out while visiting the picket line:

During the third day of strikes at a port in Newark, New Jersey, FOX Business’ Jeff Flock was met with silence when he asked the group of dockworkers if they supported Harris.

"I have no hands," Flock told "Mornings with Maria" on Thursday as he panned through the crowd.

One man said it was "nobody’s business," yet the lack of enthusiasm for the Democratic presidential candidate was on full display among the striking union members.

Oof, that's not good news for Kamala. It's also not good for the Democrat Party, in general, which has shunned the American worker in favor of illegal immigration, soaring inflation and, with this strike, a decided disinterest in the looming economic disaster.

Democrats took the union vote for granted, and now they are paying the price.
