All Trump has to do is exist and they will create a gazillion fake soundbites. Its does not matter what he says, they will create them regardless. The argument that "he's making it easy" is rather empty imo because they are going to do it anyway. He might as well speak bluntly and tell the truth. There is noting new they can throw at him that will ever be worse that the gazillion hoaxes they have already done that have failed.

Even after all they have done, he is in a stronger position now than ever before and has a considerable lead in the polls when you look at the laughable oversampling of dems they are doing since Kamala took over.

I read it very different than you did, the crowd did not react hostile to him at all the way the organizers were hoping. Most of the time they actually seemed to be listening to him, he even had some people openly supporting him. This traditionally should have been an EXTREMELY hostile crowd and it was not what they hoped.

You think he was combative????? That’s not combative. He was just throwing back the questions to get clarity and obviously they had no clue what THEY were talking about

Peoole that buy that shite aint voting for him anyway. No matter whatm. Frick em. Cant kiss everyones arse.

Watch the whole thing. Trump could have done better. He did himself no favors with people who are undecided.

He seldom does. That is his huge preoblem. He is good at feeding red meat to his base, but not good at winning over independents. And independents are where you win elections.

I don't agree with that at all. Trump being who he is (a fighter) NOT being politically correct and pushing back hard on hostle media and biased fake narratives is exactly how he has put him self in the position he is in.

He's not going to win those people over by being a PC pandering wuss.

The man has already softened his tone and delivery considerably since the assassination attempt, at some point your expectations of him are just not really reasonable. He has to be who he is.

The man is leading among Hispanics, is set to double his black vote over any republican in modern hsitory and Kamala only has small margins among female voters. I mean good grief fellas, he's doing way better than any of us could have dreamed at this stage.

Doubled down on black jobs guffaw

Got actively hostile/combative with a black female journalist in the first minute of the sitdown, in a room full of black voters, on camera

Boasted he was "...the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln"

Failed to definitively condemn the idea that KH is a DEI hire

Supported pardoning the J6 rioters that actively injured police officers, including them as patriots alongside other attendees

Came for KH's biracial status (in a room full of black/biracial audience members) with statements like "turned black"

Could only describe the murder of Sonya Massey as "didn't look good to me" and gave a mouth full of marbles response to police immunity

And people on this board think it was at worst cringey and some thought he did well. LOL?! And people on this board thought he would carry the black vote in greater numbers than last time. "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."

Your premise is wrong. He was asked specifically on all of those points and on the fly had to give difficult answers for liberals to accept. Harris has played both sides of the race question. Harris was a DEI hire because the only prerequisite that Biden gave before selecting was her skin color. These are all true, and just because he gave answers live in front of a predominantly black audience doesn’t make it less true. I bet many agreed with his real points.

None of that has anything to do with his performance in this interview.

He didn't have to go into Harris' ethnicity. That was a losing tact. He also didn't need to fire back at the interviewer so hard, even if she asked a pointed question. He could have been smoother without losing any manly points, lol.

OTOH, he accepted the invitation thinking Harris would also be there, but she canceled late for a funeral, so I'm sure he felt a bit slighted.

My point is he can still be Trump and just be a little smarter, understanding his specific audience. This wasn't a Trump rally.

I don't agree with that at all. He absolutely should have fired back at a hostile interviewer in that setting.

Playing footsies with her or the other woman was not going to win him one single vote.

Trump is winning because of who he is, not because he pretends to be who feminist liberals want him to be.

And lets not pretend he spoke like this was a Trump rally, he DID soften his tone without changing who he is at all. The crowd was not the extremely hostile environment they hoped it would be.

I'm just saying, he already has a sizable lead in several key demographics, he is already cutting into the black vote on a historic level for a modern republican. None of us could have ever dreamed he would be doing this well in these demographics.

You have to be realistic and realize that at minimum 75% of that demographic is just not going to vote for him under any circumstances. So pretending to be someone he is not is not going to help him.

That was a softer gentler Trump, and if he pushed that any further it wouldn't come off as genuine at all.

Geez, I never said he should pretend to be somebody he isn't. I simply said he should be smart enough to realize his audience and get his points across without being insulting to the questioners, even if they deserve it.

It's not that dang hard.

I'm simply saying its a mistake NOT to fight back when the questioners are clearly trying to insult and attack him. After all, he is Donald Trump and that is why he is here and in this position.

The old Trump would have tore into them on a whole other level. He did not do that here, he was much more restrained in his pushback than in previous years.

The crowd did not respond in the incredibly hostile way they were hoping.

RE: National Assoc. of Black Journalists To Host Conversation With Trump
Some of you seem to think that Trump should just sit back, take the abuse and be gracious about it. First of all, that's not how blacks operate, they are largely assertive to the point of aggressiveness. You cannot deal with people like that by laying down and taking it, they see that as a weakness to be pounced on.

Most of those who think he did poorly are older and used to politeness in our political discourse. Newsflash, those days are as gone as our youth itself. It is long past time to stand tall against those who would trash us. I have long wished that GOP candidates would get dirty with their opponents, get in the trenches and get some dirt under their fingernails. The dems aren't afraid of a little dirt, neither should we be. We have consistently taken the high road and look where we are now, just a push away from going over the edge.

Trump did just fine given his audience and the outright hostility of at least two of the interviewers. Like others here I too occasionally heard laughter and applause from the audience. There were those in attendance who support him, very few, but some.

He could have shown up, peeled off a skinsuit and revealed a black man underneath and they'd still not like him.

Also, one more thing, he needs to pound the message that she isn't actually black. Unlike some here who think that's a losing strategy, I think he has absolutely nothing to lose and stands to gain the votes of intelligent objective blacks who are feeling the same pain economically that their white and brown counterparts are feeling.

Black men may well save this country, there's a certain irony that is almost poetic justice within that dynamic.

I haven’t watched the interview but I can safely assume that Trump was far and away the smartest person in the room. Not a high bar to clear though

Many rumblings among the pundits as to why they would even schedule an event like this for him...and the conclusion of many was that the whole idea was to go to his racist/birther crap from the past...playing to his base.

And judging by a few of the replies here, it was a direct hit. They just can't help but show their true colors.

He and his campaign are nervous...VERY nervous. It's likely very difficult for them suddenly realizing they are no long on a cake walk back to DC. So sad.

Harris Faulkner was there as one of the 3 interviewers, and she certainly is a Trump supporter. She said the lack of greeting and the ambush question right off the bat was BS, and should never have happened.

OTOH, she also said that Trump could have handled it more diplomatically without being out of character. She said he could have taken the air out of the room, and out of that line of questioning, by coming at it in a different manner. But he chose not to do so.

I agree with Faulkner. This was not a Trump rally. It was a den of vipers. He could have handled it better.

If you disagree, that's fine, but honestly, if he loses, it's going to be for things like that. Remember, there are only about 2-3% max undecided voters out there, if that many. Some were likely in that room yesterday, and many many more were watching.

That was Trump's chance to be the hero, just like at his assassination attempt, and this time he missed the mark.

Does that make me not want to vote for him? Of course not. But I bet that response lost more undecided voters than it won.

Let Trump be Trump, I guess, take him or leave him, but all I'm saying is he could win more undecided voters by proving he can calmly perform in adverse situations, answer unfair questions calmly, and he chose not to do that.

Red meat for supporters like us. Not so much for undecided voters.
