Toledo overachieved in the regular season (MAC portion), played well and had 2nd half leads vs. UNM, App State, Indiana State, UC Irvine, and George Mason but lost all of those. UT bowed out in the quarters as the 1 seed.
You can't keep giving extensions for regular season titles when he's never been to the dance in 24 seasons (20 of those winning years). The core of 3 all MAC guys are gone. One goal...

Idk, but read 325k Sal and marketing top out this year at 150k. That's less than a half million. Don't know or follow if he is out recruiting most of the time or coaching. That base was before covid, and most things went way up 2day. 2017 to 18 was a long time ago.
Yes, we lost some in bb and both #1 and #2RB.

I think Calhoun has done a solid job at YSU. They were a bottom feeder when he arrived and he turned them into a consistent contender. That said, I'm still puzzled by the hire. No connection to west (that I could find) and no postseason success.

Wonder why the top 3 candidates for a head coaching position at Utah State would all be from Ohio schools.

As a Toledo fan following the Utah State coaching search, I went on the Utah State message board and saw it mentioned that their AD is from Ohio. Doing some quick research, I learned that the Utah State AD previously worked at Ohio State and got her master's at Ohio U.

There's also a lot of good D1 college basketball being played in Ohio--Dayton, Xavier, many of the MAC schools, Cincinnati, etc. So I can see why Ohio D1 coaches may be coveted.

Not clear if TK was offered the job and ended up declining or if they chose Calhoun over him. UT has a tight knit staff and not sure if any of TK's 3 assts or his own family wanted to move to small town Utah.

TBF Simon was in the running because of his tenure at Southern Utah. It seems Tod was in the conversation because he was a candidate last year when they did a national coaching search. IDK what connection Calhoun had or why he ended up landing the job.

RE: Toledo Men's Basketball Coach a Candidate for Utah St
Regarding Coach Todd K contract, only notice a base salary and a marketing amount that went up 15k a year. Perhaps there are incentives and those can vary team to team and situation to situation and posting Derek Kellogg's for reference.
Not only are incentives a way of rewarding performance, but also a way around ruffling some feathers as academic folks don't like to seeing sport coaches earning high salaries. Derek Kellogg's renewal contract after our NCAA appearance was hefty until the Frank Martin hire. We have paid significantly less as the second article points out and some of the same incentives were dramatically less.
Do think the NCAA appearance or a NIT appearance and additional for each win could apply to everyone, as academic measure, APR. Perhaps NET as well but heard from many the Net is flawed.
Will first copy a snippet of the performance bonuses.
https://www.masslive.com/umassbasketball...tensi.html
Quote:Bonuses built into Kellogg's new deal, according to the Gazette, range from NCAA tournament-related escalators ($75,000 per appearance; $25,000 per tournament win) to those award for high attendance rates ($25,000 for averaging 8,000 or more fans, $20,000 for 7,000-7999; $15,000 for 6,000-6,999).
Other clauses include:
$20,000 for winning the Atlantic 10
Scaled bonuses up to $40,000 for strong RPI numbers
$15,000 for winning Atlantic 10 coach of the year; $50,000 for winning national coach of the year
Up for $40,000 for finishing with a top-20 strength of schedule
Asked about the number of provisions built into his new deal for exceptional performance, Kellogg said “One of the things I’m most excited about are the academic standards we’ve set with APR and graduation rates.”
Kellogg stands to earn as much as an additional $80,000 per year if the team hits its academic targets.
https://commonwealthbeacon.org/education...d-reviews/
Quote:Kellogg’s replacement is Matt McCall, a University of Tennessee-Chattanooga coach who is being brought in at a significantly lower salary. According to a memorandum of understanding, McCall’s compensation will be about a third of the annual $1.1 million in salary and bonuses earned by Kellogg, which means the new head coach will no longer rank among the 10 highest-paid state employees.
