Hate to disappoint but it's neither of those. Spillers will reportedly received $150K from WF. It's fairly well known they were tampering with him before the season ended. It had a lot to do with Kerns' aggression towards Forbes' during the NIT game and his comments afterwards.

Spillers to Wake Forest… smh
I mean...at least ya'll are losing players to a larger program. We've lost our best player(s) to McNeese in the Southland Conference.
Yet the folks who enjoy hanging out at house parties and dinners with our head coach and his wife think all is fine inside the Cajundome.

Spillers is the first one to go to what I would consider a "better" program. Going back to Kerns' first season we've "lost" players to Illinois State, Chowan, Elizabeth City State, Southwest Baptist, Charleston Southern, Cleveland State, Chipola Jr. College, South Plains College, Angelo State & Hampton. In all honesty I think a lot of the earlier transfers were due to Kerns unable to find players to come to a bad program. As he got better recruits the others fell away, or were "persuaded" to leave. Very interested to see where Absom, Marsh & Harcum wind up.

Really curious to see what happens with Kerns. I was a little surprised we never heard his name for JMU considering he was reported as one of the finalists last time around. I guess that could be bad news meaning he's already headed somewhere else or could be good news meaning App is giving him enough of a pay raise that he wouldn't consider JMU.
Why would Kerns go from App to JMU?
Pretty much all the same reasons Byington would go from GS to JMU. Like I said, he was rumored to be interested and one of the finalists when we hired Byington so I was a little surprised his name didn't come up again.
A lot of people wanted him out at GS and he's from Virginia. Neither of those are true for Kerns.
I would like some Georgia Southern fans to chime in on Appvette's statement that " a lot" of people at GS wanted Byington out.
Was it because of him coming up short in the conference tournament (and thus no NCAA appearances)? Was it because his teams never won the regular season title?
While both are true, Byington did close out his tenure at Georgia Southern by winning 18, 21,21 and 20 games (20 wins/season average). His successor has averaged 13 wins in his 4 years and his predecessor averaged 11 wins in his last 4 seasons. Doesn't seem too well thought out if true.
I wouldn't say it was "a lot" but there were fans that are never happy with anything short of a conference championship every year and there was a good bit of chirping every time we would lose or end a season. Many have convenient memory about how many complaints there actually were and don't remember him ever being on the "hot seat" with fans. It seems if they are not screaming for someone to be fired that they are not happy and if you actually support the coaches you are complacent and accepting of mediocrity.

Just listed today, now that our best coach in two decades (either basketball team) signed on to the Vols, 4 of our girls are leaving. (Granted two were related)

We're still losing players to Cignetti at Indiana, as a DL who claimed to like the vibe of the new coach better suddenly entered portal and signed with them. They are now taking guys who were only spot starters for us.
I hope their collective goes broke bidding against themselves on our players.

Aiden Huntington, our best player, and a stud in the D-line just entered the portal. That’s a big loss for us.

From GoHerd35 on Herdfans:
Meredith Maier and Alasia Hayes have withdrawn from the Transfer Portal and will return to Marshall next season.
Mahogany Matthews has committed to Georgia State.

We lose a player or two that we'd like to keep in every sport each year to the Portal, but we bring in more talent we lose . . . except for women's bball.

RE: Portal Woes....
The Mountaineers have been very productive in the portal so far bringing in 11 players. A 6-6 300 lb OL from Auburn, 6-5 305 OL from FL State, 6-5 290 OL from Valdosta, 6-3 290 NT from NC State (Top 50 DL Nationally out of HS), CB Seth Robinson from GA Southern, QB Billy Wiles from So Miss, WR from Louisville, Safety from Syracuse, WR from South Carolina (who committed to us out of HS before going to USC), CB from NC Central, S from NC A&T. As of now we have "lost" 16 players, of which only four were major contributors (RB Nate Noel, WR Deshawn Davis, DE DeAndre D Prince & KR Milan Tucker). It's my understanding we will probably bring in 3-4 more guys this spring.
