It's ridiculous, right?! I felt the same way when GCU WBB beat UVU in a WAC tournament semifinal, only to lose to a still transitioning CBU in the championship game. However, the same UVU team GCU beat in the semifinal got the AQ that season because of regular season finish. It was nonsense then, and it would be nonsense now if GCU BB backed their way into the AQ the same way.

Stank has plenty of that mediocrity to own from 2018-2022, too. For a program to have a sub .500 record and only one championship over 6 seasons (less 2020) in a conference tournament that is played in your backyard is downright embarrassing.

Clearly no advantage based on results. And that "buy another playoff appearance" take is so over done. Why are you taking shots when I think we actually agree that GCU shouldn't get the AQ if Tarleton stays the course and wins it all?

No advantage as a whole because that’s the nature of the sport. Imagine Coastal Carolina winning a football or basketball national championship like they did in baseball. That doesn’t change GCU’s expenditure or the marquee sports hosting a conference tournament at a site that benefits them far more than anyone else.

While GCU doesn’t spend the amount on baseball at a statistically comparable rate compared to their conference peers like they do in basketball, they still do outspend their peers in all sports. So yes, they are buying a title, or rather attempting to do so in this case.

A broken clock is right twice and day and not far off at other times. Just because we agree on the outcome doesn’t mean we agree on how either got there. And I use that analogy knowing you consider me the broken clock, so I’m all good with it.

Nobody here is a broken anything. Just trying to understand the vitriol. If diminishing GCU athletics successes as little more than "buying titles" helps it all make sense to you, I guess you gotta go with that.

A rested Tarleton just needs one to win the tournament!

If we do, I hope we can get a waiver from the NCAA. Still have a very tough CBU team to get by to win it. But winning the championship would be a great acheivement considering we were preseason picked last place!

The is no history of the NCAA granting that waiver. It’s either CBU and or GCU.

GCU fans as a whole are an inconsistent bunch. They holler at the rest of the WAC for not caring about basketball and spending money, but to follow that with spending money isn’t buying championships.

Hard to believe they spend that money just to be on top of the budget rankings only.

Dr. Hurley already posted on X/Twitter he would request a waiver if we win. But alas it will not be granted, nor should it be. Nobody has received an approval in the past so there is no reason for us to be granted one now.

It's not inconsistent for fans of one school to want others to raise their athletic commitment to match their schools. Money spent in athletics helps to get you closer to winning championships but the coaches and players still need to perform when it matters. GCU BSB hasn't done that in Mesa most of the time. Would you rather GCU and their fans to be like "boo we don't want to invest in athletics b/c other schools and their fans might be mad, upset, or in your case jealous."

Enjoy your time in the WAC and when the time comes for UTA to be followers of UTRGV and SFA then you can brag about how you barely lost to GCU in WACT in Vegas as your claim to basketball relevancy.

just because the have not granted one in the past does not mean it will not happen. how many times has a transitiong team won their conference tourney in the past oh say 25 years? It might be a moot point if CBU wins tomorrow, but you always have to try! Either way proud of my Texans for competing at such a high level during trasition!
