"The bank’s analysts, led by Bank of America Institute Senior Economist David Michael Tinsley, found that after a post-pandemic EV craze that saw sales triple from 2021 to 2023, demand cooled off in the second half of last year. There are three main causes, they wrote: “a lack of affordability, limited choice, and ‘range anxiety,’” or the worry that people will be stranded, as infamously happened in Chicago this January, when consumers couldn’t charge their Teslas in negative 9-degree weather."

Take away the subsidies and EV's would sell even less.

Battery tech like solid state could fix all three of those concerns. the Toyota is “no matter how much progress” which seems to say even with great advances in battery tech EVs won’t makes up more than 30% of the global market.

Seems shortsighted since we don’t know what battery tech will do, which is what makes me think his opinion is posturing and and anti EV because he doesn’t have a competitor.

Seems shortsighted that we replace perfectly good technology with crap. But hey, that's the Democrat way.

I don't think that at all.

I think it means globally there is not a reliable enough electricity infrastructure to make EV's preferable to gas. It's easier to take a tanker of gas somewhere than to upgrade the electric infrastructures to rural areas around the globe.

It ain't just Toyota.
Ford's chopping Lightning production in half.
Ford lost roughly $36,000 on each EV in the third quarter.

I don't disagree with that but right now we aren't close. The infrastructure is not there, the battery technology it not there, and we still rely on China for far too many components for EV's.

I see nothing wrong with hybrids, I could go for one. There's times when you have to compromise and this would be a great time. You get both worlds for long trips relying on ICE and electrical when shopping or doing what needs to be done in town. Plus, you don't have to worry about the electrical part not charging in frigid weather. COMPROMISE!

BUT, that's too simple...for simpletons. It's either or nothing.

Maybe you believe in fairy tales too much. “Santa”, aka my wife, always gets me something great for Christmas

One of the reasons electric bills are soaring. China on the other hand get's over 60% of their electric using coal and that's where a good portion of the battery material for EV's come from.

Ford says its hybrid pickups are in high demand. Apparently construction and farm workers love having electricity wherever they are working. That makes a lot of sense.
