RE: ** GAME THREAD ** WKU(2-1, 13-4) At NMSU (1-1, 7-10) Thurs. 1-18-7:00 MT, ESPN+
It was a really interesting game with HUGE runs by both teams. I think it was McHenry that hit the jumper just as the 1st half ended and I remember having the thought that I hope that doesn't wake him up and he goes off in the second half. Our best defender is on the bench with a foot injury. When I was paying attention, it was Cook that was defending McHenry. It may be the biggest part in what allowed the comeback win to happen, to be honest.
Good Game Hilltoppers! It will be interesting to see what happens in Bowling Green. We haven't been nearly as good on the road as we are at home.
GO AGGIES!!!

Hopefully coach Lutz can use this to instill a killer instinct in the guys. Can't get up 20 and coast. Kudos to NMSU for clawing back and winning, but this is embarrassing for us to blow a lead that large.

NMSU isn't the same team they were 30 days ago with the 2 late additions who got eligible recently. Tops are missing the defensive and emotional floor leader in Jalen Jackson who suffered a broken foot and is out for the year. When we got up 23, we looked like a team who could easily win this conference. When we lost that lead, we looked like a team who could lose day one of the conference tournament. I trust Lutz in year 1 to figure it out and have this team playing its best basketball when it matters. That said, the loses at SHSU and NMSU have been some of the hardest pills we've had to swallow in some time. 2 games where based on how we played, you expect to win 8/10 times but have managed to drop both. No time to feel sorry for ourselves with UTEP on the horizon tomorrow. Aggie fans showed up and were loud late last night. Good arena with a team who has tradition and a fan base who cares makes for a better league.

That’s crazy that we were also without our best defender named Jalen Jackson-Posey who was also out with a foot injury.
I think last night was pretty much our season in a nutshell. Pretty good defense with hot and cold offense. Theres been times when we see what this team is capable of when they move the ball and hit shots. It’s just been a process and we’ve struggled finding consistency. But unlike past games this year we pulled out a close one down the stretch.

One of our late additions, Pettway, had not done much since arriving at NMSU. He exploded for 19 against WKU (he had 2 points two days later against MTSU) and was the spark plug that got the offense going. The other late addition (I can't even remember his name) played 6 minutes in his first game before rupturing his achilles. To your original point, we did get 2 new players but that is hardly the reason we are not the "same team" from 30 days ago.
