I think some of you guys are not very smart or fail to realize certain things. It’s laughable that you would think it’s even possible for UALR or East Texas A&M to leave their conference to join the WAC. Tarleton St will leave the first chance they get, why would any team want to join this conference knowing that?

It's so nice to hear from a Cardinal fan. Yes, I agree it makes no sense for anybody to contemplate joining the Titanic WAC. It makes more sense for the WAC to join somebody else. The obvious choice would be the Southland. However, there seems to be some kind of institutional superiority complex going on here that makes the WAC fans reject the "SouthWAC" or "WACland" idea out of hand.

Probably the most open-minded are the ACU and UTA fans, as both of these schools were charter members of the Southland, along with Lamar, Trinity and Arkansas State.

Somehow, we will survive the next round of reorganization, with or without the WAC.

UTA may have to spread their sports teams over a bunch of different conferences.

I really doubt that.

I am one of those who don’t want to go down to the Southland. When I type down, I am referring to the NET Rankings for the various sports offered by the two conferences. Last year, for every sport I saw with NET Rankings, the WAC was higher except for baseball.

As I stated in my reasoning for wanting to move up to FBS, I want Tarleton to play at the highest level where we can be competitive. Hence I want to be in the highest ranked athletic conference while still be competitive, therefore I don’t want to go to the Southland.

If CBU and teh Utah schools bolt first than the remaining 3 Texas schools could rebuild the WAC out of UCO ANGELO ETAM UALR UCA SFA MCNEESE and maybe Lamar. WTAM later on. It would be more "regional" with out the dead wieght cheapskates of Incarnate Word HCU and the like, they can stay in the SLC with CC RGV and other LA schools.

I guess you missed my earlier post where I mentioned some of you guys are very misguided. SFA and Lamar aren’t rejoining the WAC and those other schools aren’t either. I will bet you $1000 that never happens.

Word on the street is that ACU and UTA have talked with the ASUN. I’m sure they’ve talked to several conferences, though, as most WAC members probably have.

From a fan's perspective, ASUN seems unlikely for UTA. The conference has 12 members, none of whom we've ever played. Maybe ACU has played some of them....

That's it in a nutshell. Only the SWAC, MEAC and MAAC seem worse on a totality of all sports. In many cases, they do finish ahead of the SLC.

And on top of that, the conference is now McNeese's. Every championship runs through Lake Charles now. We have a problem now with one school having an unfair advantage.

If a team was gonna join the WAC, they would have by now. It's a simple as that.

The options are terrible right now.

A) Join the SLC and admit the last decade and a half were a waste as we wanted to elevate our athletic programs from a conference that was increasingly becoming a stepping stone into DI from DII. Right now, save SFA, there's no teams that would move the needle from the fan perspective.

B) Join the Missouri Valley, with no regional rivals and no other school within two states. They are the best competitive option.

C) Join the Summit, with no regional rivals. Decent option in Oral Roberts as a rival.

D) Join the ASUN, with no regional rivals and just Central Arkansas, a recent DII callup, as the only one with a mild amount of history.

UCA joined the Southland in 2006, that’s a recent DII call up? Wasn’t UTA in the SLC in 2006???

I thought UTA didn’t join the MVC because they didn’t want to invest more in basketball? Now they’re going to reconsider them again? Why would the MVC do that?

I think if the Summit offers you, you take it.

RE: GCU/SU/CBU
UTA was in the SLC in 1964. 2006, with transition complete in 2010, is fairly recent. I fail to see how UTA being in the conference at the time negates the idea that the SLC is a call-up conference. UTA left to join an established, high-level conference, one that had established schools. Same with the SBC. The second stint in the WAC was the first with recent call-ups, but had really good regional rivalries.

The list is a possibility. The MVC asked UTA first because some private schools like UTA's market. Missouri State is leaving. Given the options, UTA may figure out a way to make the required investment. There's a possibility, not a probability,

The Summit is okay, but there's no rivalry anywhere. ORU may be a good pairing, but that is tepid as far geography goes. The only rivalry would have to come from meaningful games.

Since you overtly left out Tarleton, is it a foregone conclusion Tarleton will get an FBS invite?

RE: GCU/SU/CBU
For me the best answer would be a collection of higher level, competitive schools, with reasonable location distances, acceptable facilities, and hopefully some historical rivalries (but this last thing would not be an absolute requirement.) So how could this happen? It would take a totally new conference with amazing leadership and support from TV rights. I actually believe a true leader could put such a conference together and, yes, it might require some D2 call ups. But it should have as a goal to be the best or the top of the ladder of FCS conferences but with time, and hopefully success, a move to FBS. This conference might not have a timeline for FBS but it would need a clear objective of being the coveted conference of any very good FCS program in our footprint. I guess I need to just keep on dreaming...

UCO and Angelo are the most obvious D2 but a mix of SLC and ASUN schools would have to be added in to keep the WAC going. ETAM and UCA along with the pair of D2s would keep it alive but more will have to added soon. But the conference admin would have to be fired and get some competent people in their to even make that happen. With what we have now, I do not see anything being done.
