not sure what degree of leverage a relatively new AD would have over a 2x MAC coach of year with 3x west titles and 2 MACC to press for that change..seems to me that it needs a healthy reflection and self awareness by Candle to make that change in the best interest of the team going forward... and perhaps with new starting QB in 2024 its ideal time to do so.

A new starting quarterback, who happens to have his HS Head Coach / OC as his QB Coach. Could be a nice time to revise some duties of the staff.

agreed, just need HC to come to that assessment (as AD is not going to press for it)

RE: Goodbye Candle???
It's early but Notre Dame lost their OC Gerad Parker to the HC job at Troy yesterday, have seen Candle's name mentioned there. Their beat writer Pete Sampson put Candle as the top coach in the 2nd tier of candidates, tier titled - "The Al Golden OC versions".

Something to keep in mind Candle turned down the same position at the U where he would have had more money, less responsibility, better weather, debatably more prestige etc. Now ND is a different story obviously but we'll see how it all plays out.

Best of the 2nd best doesn't give him much of a shot. Al Golden was such a hot commodity coming out of Temple (in MAC back then) back in the day but his ship has sailed. I guess that's the point of the reference. I never understood the credit Golden got while coaching Temple yet his star was shining brightly. Temple never won a MAC title or even a division title.

Hmm yeah let me clarify, Pete Sampson had one guy in the top tier "The Home Run", that guy being LSU OC Mike Denbrock who Marcus Freeman had worked with before at Cincy. Candle is the 2nd guy on the article, top of the 2nd tier too.

That's a very good hire for them...I loved Denbrock at UC.

Looks like unless there is some job that pops up late, Jason Candle should be in midnight blue and gold for another year.

A job that I think would make sense and very well may be open next year would be Pitt.

RE: Goodbye Candle???
Toledo FB HC records:
Gary Pinkel 73–37–3
Jason Candle 65-34

Pinkel is in the CFB HOF and his accomplishments at Toledo are integral to that recognition. Candle can easily surpass his wins at Toledo in 2024.

Y’all calling for Candle’s head need to get a grip on reality. It’s beyond TIRESOME and seriously disrespectful of his accomplishments for the midnight blue and gold, particularly given cfb’s increasingly difficult landscape.

RE: Goodbye Candle???
HC wins since 2016 I wonder where he ranks? Not program wins but single-coach Ws...

Candle has done it at one stop, but the ebs and flows hes denied by steering a program floor of 6-6 is super impressive. He may not be the coach to get us to 13-0... but he's recruiting DAMN well and the program is scandaless...

12-2 should shut up every single person who still doesn't appreciate him because we are underdogs playing a team with a P5 win playing for a coach retiring in front of a road atmosphere. That would likely be his best win as a coach.

By win % he is currently #29 among all D-I CFB coaches and #40 in career wins despite being decades younger than many on the list.

Let them have their rage porn. 03-lmfao Some people need something to get upset about so they read it.

There's no spin on Coach Candle's record. He's apparently building a HOF record beating a lot of lower tier competition and has a solid record of losing when it matters most, even though obviously bringing in and developing top talent. Some just can't get comfortable with that. If Candle is any of the coach those complaining about the complainers think he is, he's the most disappointed and the one most trying to figure it out. I would hope.

It's no crime and it's not unreasoned to think a change of environment might help him figure that out instead of pounding his head against the wall here. Pointing that out doesn't mean a poster doesn't like the guy or respect what he's done here. Nor is it unreasoned, let alone a crime to believe that it's worth the risk to see if someone else can do even better, get the program over the hump.

Use probability theory. You might also spend $2 and hit a Powerball Jackpot. Very unlikely.
Right now the program is on a better track. Talent and execution upfront is the difference
in taking the Rockets up another notch.
