Exclamation RE: Rice vs Tulane
something hopeful to ponder, transative property-wise (this post's for you OATM):

Rice > Houston > WVU > Pitt > Louisville > ND > USC

let's see: Rice < Texas > Alabama > Ole Miss > Tulane, therefore, Rice < Tulane. Rats!

I dunno bout the transitive property, but I will break out DeMorgan’s Law if I need to.

Now Rice + 11.5.

I'll take Rice and the over.

ESPN now showing Rice +10.5 with the O/U at 54.5. By no means an expert in wagering, but doesn’t this mean more bettors are taking the Owls plus the points?

For a game like Rice vs. Tulane, yes. The books will try to stimulate equal action on both sides of the line and profit no matter the result.

For games with bigger action where the book thinks they might have an edge vs. the general population, they might hold the line even when bettors are heavily on one side. Obviously this has risk-but also reward.

Unfortunately, I have seen several analyses over the years suggesting that when the line moves one way, the other way is the better bet.

Kind of a commentary on the ignorance of the average football bettor, since that is who moves the lines.

Just saw KPRC at a practice, with preview of the Tulane game and comments by Bloomgren. Bloomgren said Rice expects a big crowd Saturday.

I think we definitely have more fans in the seats this year, but Rice is probably announcing attendance as tickets sold/distributed.

Looking forward to a big crowd today.

EVERYBODY-- all college and all pro teams-- report attendance as tickets sold/distributed. Nothing new there.

Just looking back over the season and thinking, if Rice were well coached, the record would be 6-1 instead of 4-3.

RE: Rice vs Tulane
1st play for Tulane goes 40+ yds straight up the middle.

Owls’ defense stiffens and forces a FG. 0-3.
