Ohio state senator wants to limit streaming-only games
Idiot. Someone is butthurt that OSU was only available on Peacock yesterday, completely unaware that the 6 Ohio MAC schools (and I’m sure UC, Youngstown State, etc) have been playing streaming-only games for years. Just pandering to his constituents with no chance of actually passing.

Peacock is $5 a month. Pretty cheap even as a one-off PPV option. Suck it up, buttercup.

Big Ten Network+ has been around for a long time. Note that there have never been any football games on that service. A handful of minor non-conference basketball games are on it. Otherwise, the service is almost entirely for non-revenue sports.

RE: 1Ohio state senator wants to limit streaming-only games
BTW, Ohio State fans were also among the biggest complainers of the Big Ten Network initially, but that network ultimately is the biggest reason for why the Big Ten built a financial advantage over the SEC despite the SEC being a better football conference on-the-field. You can pretty much draw a direct line between the BTN and the way that the Big Ten has turned into one of the clear P2 over the past 15 years. Everyone whines about a new platform, especially the fans of the most popular teams that are used to always getting the very best time slots. Now, I get it - when the issue is how to watch next week’s game, you personally don’t care about any long-term financial strategy for a conference. However, the point is that conferences should largely ignore those people if they legitimately believe in their long-term strategy (as was the case with the BTN).

The advert I saw said “stream 4 games at once.”

I’m guessing that it might be for archived games or the non-revenue sports events on the service. There’s a pretty clear disclaimer on the B1G+ site that it doesn’t include games televised elsewhere:

“(IMPORTANT NOTE! Live streaming of televised games is not available on B1G+. If you are looking to watch live streaming of Big Ten Network, FOX, or FS1 televised games, visit Fox Sports and Login with your TV Provider.)”

The only streaming-only Big Ten football games are on Peacock. Everything else is on linear TV (FOX, CBS, NBC, FS1, BTN).

Well, it’s pretty ambiguous to create an add that clearly states “stream four games at once.”

Just passing along what I saw on the BTN when flipping through games.

As I noted in the MAC board, this is not someone who is butthurt, it is some people who are spoiled after every Buckeyes game since 1977 being on linear TV and who are now butthurt, and one politician who is pandering to them.

Did it say "4 football games" or "4 games"?

I mean, streaming four Lax games at once could be handy for keeping up with a busy conference day in the Lacrosse, without carrying any implication that there are football games on the service.

BruceMcF and a couple of the other OSU fans who post here are good guys. I like them. But collectively Ohio State fans are the biggest Karen’s in college sports.

My daughter signed us up for it for $1.99 a month for a year using her student ID a few months ago. It's really cheap right now.

Imagine the irony of him granting an interview to a journalist whose work is only available through a service you have to pay for.

A lot of people are already paying for expensive cable/satellite dish for years, are not desiring to add-on streaming packages. Collective costs matter for some consumers. Fleecing schemes are at work.

The Ohio politician’s point is not in a vacuum.

I think the toughest part is for bars

The price points bars and restaurants have been given are high

For the average consumer, get a free trial

RE: Ohio state senator wants to limit streaming-only games
If I'm not mistaken, this game wasn't optioned to Peacock until some point early in the season. I don't think it was locked in by week two yet? So, I understand (to a point) why folks would be mad. It's one thing to stick the body-bag games on this thing like it was ESPN 3/+ or BTN+, but, those games aren't available across the entire season, and Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan State did their tour early enough on, I guess. Given the likely outcome of the game (an OSU win), if an OSU game had to push onto Peacock, this was probably going to have to be the one (I'm guessing MSU-OSU would have worked until MSU would have complained about having to be on Peacock exclusively twice).

Apparently, the broadcast wasn't great. Not just quality playcalling (which I would expect; you're not getting the "A," "B," or "C" teams on this one), but feed issues. There's also the matter of a tv or device's ability to handle Peacock.

But, honestly, if fans are mad? Direct it to your school, who made this okay when they inked this massive media deal. It's not Comcast's fault they made the offer. It's the Big Ten's for agreeing to it.
