In the House the "base" is pretty varied on the scale of moderate to far-right. I don't think you can say the opinions of the GOP house member from New York is the same as the opinions of MTG's district.
It is of course a varied membership—-but do the Democrats make sure they are led by the most conservative Democrat available—-or do their leaders tend to lean more towards base? So why would we select a leader who is shooting the finger at 50% of the primary voters? I think it’s dumb move—just like McCarthy was—but I’d still be willing to roll with Scalice if he just agrees to fulfill McCarthy’s broken promises (I think this is exactly the kind of compromise that will eventually happen).

So wait...some GOP members needed help from the DEMS to oust the Speaker. Now, some GOP members need their help to elect one. Those darn prog filth!
Quote:Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), who chairs the Armed Services Committee, told reporters Thursday after a closed-door House GOP meeting that he wants Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) to tell Republicans what concessions they’ll have to make for Democrats to help them elect a speaker—underscoring the chaotic race to find a new House leader as Republican options grow short to overcome an intraparty impasse.
At the Capitol, Rogers said, “we’re willing to work with them, but they gotta tell us what they need.”
He went on to explain that “to limit ourselves to just getting 217 out of our conference I think is not a wise path forward,” referring to the votes needed to win the speakership on the House floor—which official Republican speaker nominee Rep. Steve Scalise (La.) still appears well short of.
He maintained that Republicans are “still the majority party,” but described the eight Republicans who voted to oust previous Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as “traitors” who “put us in this position” and “paralyzed” the House.
House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) was asked by reporters about the idea of a deal between Democrats and Republicans and said, “that is going to be up to our caucus to make that decision, but our door is open.”
Without an approved speaker, the House remains unable to act on key matters like an impending potential government shutdown or aid to allies in Ukraine and Israel amid major conflicts overseas.
Tom Emmer might be the next one to buy a ticket to the circus. Scalise's Whip and he was campaigning behind his back telling people to bail on his boss. Clown show.

So with everything going horribly wrong with the Biden admin. Republican/Trump aligned outlets are showing stuff Trump/Gaetz/and a few others have said attacking Scalise. The leftist media is talking about what's wrong with Jim Jordan. Republicans attacking themselves and most actually approving of it. But, I was told over a week ago this would all have gone away by now.
Now they are talking about giving the interim speaker the power of the speaker because that's ok, but actually electing one isn't. And I doubt they would even be able to pull off getting the votes for that.

Some won't admit it, but this was a huge tactical and political blunder by Gaetz and his band of seven. Concessions to the DEMS are now on the table to TRY and get a speaker elected. Anyone think the DEMS really want to make that happen in an upcoming election year? The GOP can't get their crap together while the DEMS are ready to do the country's work is how it is being played.

Yeah, this’ll show those independent minded righties not to think for themselves. If they don’t like the taste of orange koolaid, then they get nothing.
Hah! It’s about time people learn that it is the Trumplets who rule the roost. And if not, there’ll be no roost to rule.

We wouldn't be seeing any of this if dumb*** Gaetz wouldn't have engaged in fvckery for his own personal gain...

Gaetz may be the biggest tard in DC and that is really saying something when compared to the short bus on the left and vapid, back stabbing twats like Nancy Mace.
This is the same hit the floor and throw a tantrum like a 3 year old stuff that is going to get us yet another 46% from the same guy. It's the same people. I swear there must be a faxed newsletter they all read.
Large chunks of this party need to go see the Wizard for a brain.
They are our own AOC and idiot squad...different sides of the same coin.

Gaetz and the rest of his squad didn't think this through. Then again, it's not uncommon for most politicians to not consider medium and long term effects when they are so focused on short term gain.

yea, let's not have any leadership that does what we want.
THis was thought thru very well at the beginning of the year, which is why the rule was put back in place.
The reason republicans cant win elections is that they RARELY follow thru with what they said they were going to do. Newt in '94 is the last time I can recall. THATS how we want things to operate, not as a sub-party of Nancy Pelosi.
We won't be a sub party of Nancy Pelosi, by gawd!...but we will let 8 idiots vote with all democrats so that republicans are now forced to talk with democrats about who they will support...
Lol. That is some Grade A level circular firing squad thinking.

Exactly my point. When their options are to lead like we want them to or just keep doing the status quote and getting bent by Nancy, they run to Nancy.

The MAGA party doesn't know how to govern. That simple.
