Looks like Putin has finally broken his self-imposed silence on the crash of Prigozhin's plane and his death. Putin said that Prigozhin was a 'good businessman with a flawed character who made some serious mistakes in his life.' And in case this last criticism might be misunderstood Putin also sent his condolences to Prigozhin's family. Everyone on the plane was top leadership in Wagner except for the three crew members.

The Kremlin denies any involvement in Prigozhin's death. That information circulating that the Kremlin was involved is described as Western propaganda by the Kremlin. Said the results of the investigation may lead to those actually involved.

When asked if Putin would attend Prigozhin's funeral the reporter was reminded that Putin has a "very busy schedule.'

Of course a Russian takeover of Alaska is a silly notion. Still, its not uncommon to see silly things here---For instance----"The Ukraine war is NATO's fault", "the Ukrainians are getting wiped out and are days from a total collapse", and the ever popular "the Wagner coup was fake". Yeah---we are doing absolutely stupid crap here (you mentioned some of the dumb stuff we are doing in our military)---but at least we dont have a column of soldiers shooting down airplanes on their way toward DC. Well---at least not yet.

Putin is now ordering all former Wagner forces to swear allegiance to Russia and be incorporated into the Russian army. I wonder how that works considering Wagner forces in Africa are actively engaged on one side or the other in African civil wars while "extracting" precious minerals for their own benefit. One of the benefits of "private armies' like Wagner was the deniability of any involvement by the Russian government. Guess they can't pretend any longer.

Yup. Thats exactly why Wagner was allowed to exist. It was a nice force to get nasty things done without the Russian state having to get is hands dirty. It allowed the Russians to get what they wanted while providing a way to deny any responsibility---"its a private contracted commercial military force" and not an "official" Russian Army operation---though its clear the Wagner Force could not exist without the Russian government funneling massive support to the organization. It will be interesting to see if official Russian government forces will now handle these jobs in the future or if another Russian PMC will simply expand to take on these kinds of operations.
