Thinking outside the box didn't happen. What now?
Well, unless things change, it looks like what a lot of people seemed to want from the start, will likely be happening, unless some new surprise happens.

Colorado and AZ (and probably the rest of the "four corners") to the Big12, and OR and WA to the Big10.

We still haven't heard for certain about the other PAC schools, though rumors are apparently flying.

I'm getting the impression that schools that the Big10 might have been interested in, but which apparently still need to "do more work" (academically, or on the field, or whatever) seem to be poised to wait it out in the Big12: Kansas, Colorado, the Arizona schools, etc...

I've said all along that the PAC is clearly a guilty opportunity.

But I really did not expect the Big10 to add another "island".

And I said way back around when this all started that OSU and WSU should have been on the phone with the Big12. I still think that's true. Big12 vs MWC? That should be a no brainer. But now... Will the Big12 be interested with apparently so many other schools as options?

And if AZ and AZ state are added to the Big12, will they still want SDSU for California coverage?

And it'll be interesting to see how things play out with Cal and Stanford.

After saying no to Cal before, will there now be a "yes"?

I think a big part of this is that, due to the mess with the media deal, negotiations for admission to the Big10 likely became a bit more desperate. A hard "no", could become a "yes" if the price becomes more of a bargain.

I haven't seen it anywhere yet, but I wonder where the Big10's media partners are with all of this?

And I do think mistakes were made all along this journey.

Not the least of which was the pac (and the schools thereof) apparently mis-judging the strength of its position, multiple times on multiple fronts.

In hindsight, we can of course say they should have done x, y, or z. And maybe USC and/or UCLA may have had a hand in not expanding. But the media deal negotiations, and the seeming mess made of it? I think once this is in the rear-view mirror, we are going to see comparisons between Warren and Kliakoff and Yomark.

The Big10 has seemingly done well money-wise, but I think the clear winner has been Yomark. He took the situations which could have devastated the Big12 and now look... They seemingly have their choice of schools to add. It's an embarrassment of riches.

I of course wish all the schools well, but I still think there are still some mistakes being made here.

And I don't think this is over. Not at all.

Where do you think it's going from here?

Adding Huskies and Ducks actually relieves some of the problem of USCLA being on an island. I don’t think the BIG had any plans to expand again prior to bringing the LA schools in, but the Colorado move presented an opportunity to pick up two big brand names at discount prices. I still think Cal and Stanford will end up in the BIG at some point. That solves the island problem and provides plenty of content for the late games.
The next domino to fall will be once the ACC implodes. I thought that wouldn’t happen until around 2030, with schools refusing to extend the GOR and TV deal with ESPN. Then lining up their destinations for 2037. But if FSU is willing to payout $300m to get out and move to the P2, I’m guessing the ACC doesn’t make it till then.
The BIG May go up to 20 schools now, it won’t go over that. It will wait for the ACC to disintegrate. Then make an all out push for ND, UVA, UNC and Duke. If those schools refuse to come, the 4C schools and/or Kansas will jump through hoops to get those spots.

Huge win for Big 12. Big win for B1G.

The comment about some schools that want a shot at the B1G is pertinent here. If they stay at 20 then nobody from the Big 12 gets in, but if they go to 24? A lot can change over the next decade or 2, and a lot of those Pac refugees and current Big 12 teams would be near the top of that list.

I think the Big10 had more patience than the rest of us. And could, due to the circumstances of all the stake holders.

And so, when the opportunity arrived, they got what most people thought they would, but likely at desperation prices...

And yes, I think we should all watch the ACC, I don't think they'll be sitting idly by.

I agree on OSU & WSU. Why the undying loyalty to the conference and to the Bay Area schools (Cal & Stanford) ?

So now what, a P2 board, a M2 board and a G5 1/2 board.

Or seriously just merge the P5 and G5 boards back together into 1 FBS board.

Patience, definitely.

I think we should all take a lesson from these media negotiations too. Oregon and Washington were willing to take a lesser payout because there was little competition. Yes, they could have gone to the Big 12, but the SEC wasn't going to go that far outside their footprint. That gave the Big Ten the freedom to be more selective.

Its 2 and not sure from there.
Not sure the PAC still doesnt have more schools of interest to the BIG than B12.
ACC has more schools of interest to the P2 than the B12 or PAC.
As of now I still rank ACC above both then the other two.

B12 has a better group in total since the PAC is down to 4 but on average their four is better than B12s 14, 16, 18 or how ever many this week. If the PAC has additions the PAC average will drop below the B12 soon.
