I hope they get in. Realignment is unfairly a steep uphill climb if demographics aren't on your side.

They deserve it, but looking a demographics, if you are in the north or northeast, you are screwed. But if in the south, southeast congrats.

Could agree with that comment any more.

Makes sense San Diego State is begging to get back in.

They always seem to want to leave their brethren behind though.

Their brethren would leave them behind in a heartbeat.

they should watch the UAC and see if that is a path to fbs, either by joining them or mimic with a new Northern league
i don't see the MWC backfilling with either NDSU or SDSU

On the field, NDSU and SD St are no brainers. Unfortunately, they're very small, they're in the middle of nowhere, and there are no people around them. So the MWC schools would have to be enthusiastic about traveling vast distance to often lose to schools with few fans and in the middle of nowhere. Seems quite unlikely.

A couple more Wyomings for the MWC.

Or New Mexicos, whichever makes more sense.

New Mexico has big time basketball support, totally different situation than Wyoming.
They were a candidate in the 90s to join the XII believe it or not.
I don't see them attractive to the PAC but AAC as part of a package deal around Air Force why not.

It would be so cool that when SDSU leaves the MWC, they replace them with...
SDSU

RE: Rumors: NDSU, SDSU Actively trying to get into the MWC
This is good news for the MWC. If the conference does lose multiple members to the Pac, the interest from these programs means the MWC will have more and better options to backfill openings than the WAC did when the MWC picked it apart.

New Mexico has more people than North and South Dakota combined. UNM is also R1, long-term solid in basketball, and they fit the geographic footprint of the MWC. Wyoming fits the footprint too, they're not far from several schools. It's 800 miles from colorado st to north dakota st. And we're leaving out the biggest issue, which is that the MWC isn't desperate for schools and is able to freely pull from the lower g5 conferences as needed. Assuming NDSU and SD St move up, they'll join CUSA most likely, at least at first. Now, if they join CUSA and prove to be a big money earner/tv draw/sell out their road games etc etc, then perhaps the MWC will look at them down the road.
For now, I'm not sure where the MWC goes. Maybe UTEP and Texas St? Those are both in highly populated areas, and El Paso is only 266 miles from Albuquerque. San Marcos is more of a hike, and I know that they've never done much in football, but, man, their location is fantastic, and their overall program outside of football is solid. It's also not a bad drive from San Marcos to El Paso, unless you forget to buy gas in Ozona and try to cost into Fort Stockton on fumes. Um, don't ask me how I know that.
Ideally, you'd rather add NMST instead of Tx St, but I'm not sure if anybody wants to be around NMST right now.

North Dakota State is in Fargo, and they are pretty good size city. Bigger than Pullman Washington and Stillwater Oklahoma.

Would they be the first realignment move strictly based on on field performance not market or brand?

Not just those two, but schools in Texas like UTEP, Texas State, Abilene Christian or Tarleton State. Montana, Montana State, Sacramento State, Northern Arizona, Weber State and Idaho.
