I can’t get the map to zoom enough to look at Maine and the search isn’t working for me. I spend part of the year in Maine and part in North Carolina so that is fascinating to me. Most people we know in Maine are fans of UMaine. UConn also has a pretty good following. I’ve never heard the words “North Carolina State” uttered by any Mainer. But Aroostook County is so sparsely populated and so remote that if one person bought tickets to a NC State game that might constitute the “most popular”. Hockey is by far the most popular college sport in Maine.

This is only measuring people who bought secondary tickets on VividSeats. For a lot of counties, one person making a group purchase to a game faraway was enough to place a school first.

There are also a lot of counties where the local team dominates attendance, but all those tickets are bought through the school and not on VividSeats. So for a school like Murray St who averages 5k+ attendance, Kentucky ends up winning by virtue of Murray St tickets rarely being on VividSeats (why buy through a secondary site with fees when they can buy $15-20 tix through the school).

This is an interesting map but you are correct that this map is distorted by not capturing local purchases at the box office, student tickets, etc. Just to use an example, unlike Murray St, my alma mater App State has piss poor basketball attendance, averaging 1000 per game, most of those purchases are student tickets or locals buying season tickets or day-of walk up purchases. Assuming 60% are from Watagua County (likely closer to 80%), that is 600 per game, that's 6 or 7k over a season. Yet the map is colored for Wake Forest. No way 7000 tickets were sold to Wake Forest games from Watagua Co in a season. Im sure the same dynamic exists at nearly every school in a small college town, like Murray or App. Interesting map none the less.

I only see one county for Xavier, which oddly is all the way over in Ashtabula County (in the most northeastern corner of the state). I would figure that to be more of a Youngstown State or Pitt leaning county.

Xavier is also most popular in Washington County, Maine 01-wingedeagle

Lol, my guess is nobody buys tickets through this service in that county except for a family of four who happen to be Cincinnati transplants.

Leaving aside the limited nature of the information, Louisiana Tech does not lead in any county.

I am not sure this is helpful.

A school like Wyoming may own its home market, but the population is, say, 500 thousand.

San Diego State may not own southern California but the state's population is 39 million. The Aztec fan base may be significantly more people.

One county in Texas has Colorado as their favorite?
