Why should he quit? I wouldn’t.

I would if wasnt giving the team what they needed.

He probably thinks he’s doing fine. He’s making a bunch of money doing what he loves and they are usually in a bowl game. Do you think you suck at your job? I bet you don’t. It’s up to the university to fire him. We finally got rid of Jack Crowe after years of results similar to this. But if they are content with mediocrity that’s their business.

But beating Middle AGAIN has brought me out of my Saddam Hussein hidey hole. My beard is out to Ted Kaczynski levels so I do look like Saddam when he came out hands up.

Just to laugh and laugh at Middle. Every time I get mad at Helton for losing a game we certainly could/should have won like the Troy game I want to just give up on Western. Had no excitement to go Thursday night but a chance to beat Middle drug me up to the hill.

If I was in charge of the HAF (Hilltopper Athletic Foundation) I'd send my Middle counterpart money to keep Rick Stockstill as head coach down there.

As frustrating as it is being a Western fan at times we will pull the trigger on a bad coach. Very few programs in the country would have fired a guy after only 2 season unless he went winless and we did that with Goober Sanford Jr. Helton loses games he shouldn't but he's eons better than Goober Jr was.

Middle gives a mediocre coach a lifetime contract and from what I understand he keeps pretty much his whole staff intact forever. I could be wrong but that's my impression.

As down as I can get on Helton I do realize he's had to replace staff after staff in his last 5 years. That's what happens when you have offenses like we've had. We're never going to go undefeated but by god it is fun to watch our wide receivers. I can't believe how bad Middle's wideouts were. They used to have studs at that position.

We lost 3 guys off our O-Line to P5 schools in the offseason. Somehow we've been able to keep Reed off his back. I have to tip my cap to Helton. We've lost multiple very good running backs in successive seasons to P5 schools but somehow have scratched up a couple decent ones out of whats left. Even though Taywan Taylor and Nicholas Norris aren't walking through that tunnel ever again we have some pretty good receivers under Helton. And we've lost multiple receivers to P5 schools as well. That's just part of the game right now.

Something is off with Reed's accuracy this year. If he is able to fix it we will have a chance in every game here on out. Somebody said problem with his calf and unable to push off. I don't know. He can still throw a rope on occasion but he's missing on stuff he never missed on last year.

I know this is too long to read but my tl;dr is Go Coach Stockstill you rock.

Stockstill after every loss -- "Too many injuries........... not enough facilities"

A guy in the football coaching told me way back when Stockstill was named our head coach........... "I can't believe y'all just hired Gomer"

Apparently that was Stock's nickname. And here we are 2 decades later.

Even if Stock retires, I shudder to think who our president will hire to replace him. And, yes, I said president. He makes the hires over our AD. I kind of feel sorry for Massaro.

There’s part of me that says Rick isn’t a bad coach. He always seems to get things going to salvage a season and there are bright spots. The issue is he makes horrible decisions and then I think, there’s the coach I hate. Running Nick on that 4th down straight up the middle was an absolutely terrible call. Rick does have poor facilities so that excuse is legit but that’s about to go away with the build blue campaign. His recruiting is nonexistent and he will pick up guys where we are pretty much their only FBS offer. He looks dead in press conferences. The fans absolutely are ready for a change. I agree with Kajun though, I’m worried who McPhee would hire after him. We really need a change at all three major leadership roles at our university (President, AD and Coach).
