Every week is hate week for me. I hate what McPhee, Massaro and Stockstill have done to a once solid football program.

To illustrate why Blue Raider Dave might "...hate what McPhee, Massaro and Stockstill have done..."; the overall record against Western now stands at 36-35-1 in favor of the Toppers. Before Stockstill (hired by Massaro and retained by both Massaro and McPhee); Middle Tennessee's program held a significant overall lead in the series.

Actually, not true

Before Stockstill the series was 27-29-1 in favor of MTSU...virtually even as it is today.

04-jawdrop So, Stock is 6 wins and 9 losses in the 100 Miles of Hate Rivalry? Well. I'll stand corrected but that's still unacceptable. We still need some major changes in the Boro! BTW, spread is down to 5.5 pts.

Not disagreeing with you, just giving some stats. Fwiw, he was 5- 2 against WKU in his first seven games when we were transitioning to FBS and began playing FBS. He's 1-7 since then, if that helps. Lol

As Mark Twain ( who woulda been a great MT fan) once said "There are Lies , Damn Lies, and then there are statistics!" 03-lmfao As someone who has "two brothers-in-law" who played for Western; pretty uneasy bout this Thursday night matchup, cause the winner may have an inside track to the CUSA championship.

Yes, it dropped early yesterday fast. Kentuckains can now bet legally starting Thursday for 1st time. O/U is now going up, not sure why. I dont think WKU going to hit an over for awhile with anemic offense and pretty much 1 skill guy we can count on.

Is it a “loser leaves town” match for the coaches?

Do I have to be physically inside the commonwealth to make a bet on line? (It is illegal in Alabama).

I think this is a get right game for WKU. I don't think MTSU matches up well with WKU.

Thankfully, it does look like the rain today and tomorrow should move out of the area by the morning and the weather should be good tomorrow evening.

Cool post, nice breakdown on the stats involved in the game. I’d bet UTEP/NMSU fans might like a word on that “best rivalry” claim, but that’s not my issue to debate. Looking forward to getting to know 100 Miles of Hate. Couple things that stick out to ME.

The rivalry wasn’t played from 1991-2007. Don’t remember WKU moving up so much later than MT. I’d love to know why WKU went Independent, and eventually Gateway during their final stretch in 1-AA, but the fact that the Blue Raiders and Hilltoppers never played during that time is surprising. Politics? Some rivalries die out as time and subdivisions separate. Clearly, this one endured.

WKU has won seven of the last eight? I can see why some Blue Raiders are upset with their head coach! That’s a lot of recent suffering for MT fans.

Rick has been skull drug when wkcc was better and still beaten even when they were weren't. For example, no way he should have lost the 2016 and 2017 games. Stockstill snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. This isn't the only reason we're done with the Stockstill era, but it's an important one.

In answer to your question, in the 60's and 70's WKU had a regular top 20 basketball program and when the Sun Belt was formed we accepted an offer to move from the OVC to the SBC. The SBC didn't have football back then. It was a powerhouse midmajor basketball conference...we had up to 4 NCAA teams one year in the 80's. Since the OVC wouldn't allow football only, we were forced to go Independent. As an Independent, especially for FCS, scheduling is a nightmare, as I'm sure you're aware. It almost killed the football program. Eventually many of those good bball schools moved on and left the SBC which forced to merge with the American South. Some of those schools had FBS football and eventually the SBC became a FBS conference in 2001. WKU waited until 2006 to decide to move up and started transitioning to FBS in 2007.

MT Prez = McPhee = hired August 2021 ~ 22+ years and latest contract does not expire until December 2026, when he'll be 73 years of age
MT A.D. = Massaro 62 = hired April 2005 ~ 18+ years ~ 6th longest tenure in D-1
MT H.C. = Stockstill 63 in December = hired December 2005 ~ 17+ years ~ 4th longest tenure in D-1

And I'm not so sure that WKU was our "hated" rival back in the OVC days. We had TN Tech and APSU for that. Western had EKU and the Murray Mules.

Lol with all this OVC talk kind of feel bad for EKU. All of their historic rivals have moved on to their desired conferences. Western and MT are together in a conference on a national stage and Murray just moved into one of the top mid major basketball leagues. Hell, even JSU is gone.

As for the game this week, will catch what I can with the Sam game going on. Glad CBSSN will have the coverage. They’ll do a good job and hopefully WKU draws a good crowd. Expecting a big WKU win but anything can happen in these rivalry games.

I'd say that's an accurate statement. The old timers can probably confirm. I'm old but not that old. COGS

It should be for MT, but it won't be, even if it's a 45 or 50 point blowout, which given this particular coach who has gone 1-7 the last 8 games, is a head scratcher for most outside observers.

When anyone looks closer, the trifecta of President Mcphee, AD MAssaro, and Stockstill (all 3 here 18 years or longer), and you pile on a do-nothing Board led by Steve Smith, it explains the sad shape of MT football, the anger and apathy of Raider fans, and being passed over two separate times in realignment.
