CNN did not protray him that way. He needed to be put into a mental hospital. The problem is that a judge ruled that it was against the Constitutional rights of people with mental health problems to be locked away in a mental hospital against their will. This is the outcome we get here when something tragic happens.

David, you are correct here (and kudos to you for your improved posts as of late, btw). We the people fund the government. The government is there for many purposes, one of which is to support the "General Welfare" of the people. The government has absconded its responsibilities in this regard, specifically with regard to mental illness. Many liberal polices of the middle 20th century focused on the "abuses" of the mentally-ill, and some very correctly so. However, there is a segment of our population than CANNOT live independently and mixed in with the general population due to the severity of their issues. In such cases, these folks need to institutionalized, either voluntarily or involuntarily. Not a happy subject, and the opportunity for abuse and mistreatment are always a consideration, but for the general welfare, some folks need removal from society until they heal (or die), depending on if their conditions improve.
It is not fair to fully blame Mr. Neely for being in a situation that left him hungry and homeless. It is also not fair to the young marine and other folks on that train to have to deal with an individual that was threatening and intimidating many passengers, and had done so at least 40+ times previously. RIP, Mr. Neely, and I hope in the grace of GOD you are now whole, both mentally and physically. THANK YOU to the Marine that protected the lives of the people on train, and I pray you receive no prosecution for being brave enough to deal with such an awful situation. And DAMN YOU TO HELL, local and federal government that did not protect your law-abiding citizens enough to remove a person with serious issues from the general populace so that he could get treatment and the Marine would not have to intervene because he feared for his fellow passenger's safety.
