Roster for next year
I know Penny's not done recruiting and of course we'll lose some to the transfer portal but what is a preliminary look of what our roster may look like next year? Who do we have that can return/ become eligible?

RE: Roster for next year
We are desperate (or should be) for an experienced PG & an experienced big too. Lots of good freshman coming in, Lawsons' are back, Kao maybe if Penny wants him - of those that played.

I imagine Penny will be aiming for the best portal players on the market to get some experience.

I believe we can be dangerous with a few additions quick.

Next year doesn't have to be a rebuilding year.

I do - hopefully, he matures and realizes how stupid that was and how it likely hurt his team. He’s a good shooter who we will definitely need.

Doesn’t matter who our roster is comprised of next year. We aren’t going to the tournament unless we win the conf championship next year or the year after. This was our best shot for a while.

It's very difficult in this wild west environment to have a rebuilding year. NIL & the transfer portal make it near impossible to build a team by roster retention. You either recruit it or you don't have it. Hard to win with freshmen but if they sit they transfer.

Granja is probably gone or he likely will be pushed out by Penny.

Same exact thing I said one year ago. Yet we here we were.

With the modern transfer portal, its never has to be a rebuilding year. Its not a long shot at all to get back next season.

It will be the same as every other year in the Penny era. We will win against a team or two that gives us hope, we will lose to a team or two that completely demoralizes us. We will be mentioned whenever they are talking about bubble teams. We will either slide in with our fingers crossed or we will be playing in the NIT. That is where our program is now, and that is where Penny is as a coach. Bubble.

We were NOT a bubble team, that is just factually wrong.

I don't really buy into this over the top negativity. There is no way on earth anyone could say this years team underachieved, imo they overachieved.

You can argue they underachieved in the final 3 minutes, but you can say that about Duke, Kansas, Virginia and a host of strong programs. And they have all done it multiple times in recent years.

But in totality this team far exceeded expectations. I think most fans were convinced this was a rebuild year and we were NIT bound. Instead we won multiple big games and cruised into the NCAA tourney with relative ease. We weren't a bubble team at all this year.

Penny's teams have traditionally preformed well in the post season, we won the NIT, and lost in a thriller to a #1 seed last year.

Eligible to Return
Keontè Kennedy (one year)
Chandler Lawson (one year)
Jahmar Young Jr. (one year)
Johnathan Lawson (three years)
Ian Granja (three years)
Malcolm Dandridge (one year)
Jayden Hardaway (one year)
Source: https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/s...956357007/

Recruits
Mikey Williams (5 star) (6-2 Combo Guard) (signed)
Ty-Laur Johnson (4 star) (6-0 PG) (hard commit)
JJ Taylor (4 star) (4 star) (6-7 SF) (signed)
Ashton Hardaway (4 star) (6-7 PF) (signed)
Carl Cherenfant (4 star) (6-5 SF) (signed)
Ryan Forrest (3 star) (6-3 SG) (signed)
David Tubek (3 star) (6-6 PF) (hard commit)

The above represents the 5th best rated class in D-1 and by far the best in the new AAC.

I do not know the hang up with the two players yet to sign.

My guess is not everyone returns and not everyone signs. Penny also has the option to designate his sons walk ons. Penny will be hitting the transfer market and I suspect he will do well.

Update
Transfers Out:
Kao

That's a very solid base if we keep Lawsons, Keonte and MD. If Mikey or Ty-Laur can ramp up quick then we should be OK. Penny will find a couple of stud transfers...have no doubt. With all the upsets in tourney this year...feel like transfer portal will be loaded with great players.

No, tigerpride is more correct.

We have to build up some tourny equity.

Example; The last play of the game, Penny called the right defense and every player on the team except 1 person understood what to do. The person screwed up their assignment because they are young and because it was the first time they'd been in the tourny. Next year they will know. In the tourny even low resourced teams like FAU have time to find the defensive weak spot. Like conference play where the coaches in the conf tell each other how to beat each other...

Lets stick with our Penny investment.

Not sure I understand what you mean "lets stick with our Penny investment"...

I am literally picking us to be better than you two are. I am saying we will be a bubble team next year, you two are saying we wont make the tournament next year unless we win the conference tournament.
