RE: Stewart Mandel on BYU SportsNation: Gonzaga to B12 "inevitable"

That's pure insanity. There's no "inferiority complex" as if it's about "feelings"... it's totally the economic structure of college sports. Golden Rule: He with the gold makes the rules.
The cartel literally refuses to play the rest of us, then tells us our schedules weren't good enough to make the NCAA Tournament. Then if you win despite the deck being stacked against you... the cartel offers more money to your coaches.

The Gonzaga women do the same thing now that the men did from 1999-2013. Without Mark Few, with two different head coaches. So yeah, it's all Mark Few.

Well that's just time zones. The Big East was built being on ESPN every night at 7 pm ET. The WCC can be on ESPN every night, but it will be at 10 pm ET.
I agree with the bolded only to the extent that it describes the College Football Playoffs. I disagree for College Basketball, every single team in the country has an opportunity to win the National Title and they have objective criteria from Day 1, independent of any perceptions regarding conference strength or resume, to achieve that goal.
Every conference has an auto-bid to the tourney. Win that auto-bid and you make the tourney. Win your games in the tourney, you become the champion. Doesn't matter if you SOS is 350, you know what to do.

What Gonzaga is doing is impressive in the WCC. I know $$$ is all that matters, but I don’t see them having the success they’ve had, in the Big 12.

100% agree. Just don't see why disrupting a solid all sports B12 league that is already near the top basketball conference needs Gonzaga. And the Zags have been special because they can go 30-2 every year. When they start going 17-12....are they really special anymore? Just seems kind of unnecessary from Big 12 view. Not to mention being 1500 miles from the closest other school not BYU. 2800 miles from UCF.
Prior to Few joining in 1999, the Zags had made 2 NCAA tournaments ever in a 50 year history. I think of this similar to Greg Marshall at Wichita State. Prior to Greg Marshall....WSU made 1 NCAA between 1987 and 2011. 24 years! Marshall shows up and takes Wichita to all time highs (7 NCAA in 13 years). Post Marshall...not going so great. Just like pre Marshall.
So is Gonzaga a top program because of Gonzaga the school or because of Few?
Few would have crushed it at any program.
So I tend to see a big drop-off coming post Few.....especially in the grind of the Big 12. So eventually Big 12 may get stuck with a middle of the conference Gonzaga that is 1500-3000 miles from no where. Like I said...just seems unnecessary to start adding non-football schools when you already have strong basketball conference.
Culturally, Gonzaga does fit in the Big XII, IMO. You do have to.look at the Wichita State situation in the AAC and wonder if that could be a possible outcome with Gonzaga & the Big XII.
The question is: does Gonzaga want to remain competitive if it joins the Big XII or not? That to me is a fair question to ask. It certainly helps that BYU is in the Big XII and has spent time with Gonzaga as a conference mate & rival.
I do believe that one thing that would really help Gonzaga is to bring in Washington State and Oregon State. It would help encourage more rivalries, and the Big XII would be getting a baseball national champion in Oregon State. Both schools fit the culture of the Big XII, IMHO.

I had to read that bolded sentence several times. Did you actually mean that, or did you think you had typed "not" before the word "fit"? The lack of a cultural fit is one of the biggest arguments I would make against them joining the Big 12.
