RE: MAC WBB Transfer Portal: 2023
The 1st domino falls at Akron as Layne Ferrell announced she is putting her name in the portal. A 6'2 player with guard-level ball-handling and shooting skills, with I think 2 years remaining, she will probably get a lot of interest.

I see now that former Miami F, Katie Davidson who was not on the Miami roster this season, had planned to transfer to Akron, but has now decided to put her name back in the portal, with the upcoming coaching change at Akron.

Dominique Camp continues the Akron parade out. Will be her 4th transfer I think, but as a grad I think she can play anyway.

Also, Sydney Watkins from Miami is in the portal.

RE: MAC WBB Transfer Portal: 2023
Not a transfer, per se, but in the story on the NIU website about their WBI games (they went 0-3) it says that was A'Jah Davis' last game as a Husky. So, it looks like she is not going to come back for a 5th year. That makes a big dent in the NIU lineup for next year, as Davis represented close to 30% of their production this year.

RE: MAC WBB Transfer Portal: 2023
Two big names now in the portal:

Yaya Felder, OU. That's a huge loss for OU, as she essentially was the offense for the Bobcats this year. They are also graduating Caitlin Kroll, which would seem to put them in a complete rebuild next year.

A'Jah Davis, NIU. Had heard before that she was planning on turning pro, but her IG post indicates she is keeping both options open - transfers and pro opportunities - but is officially in the portal. NIU also graduating MAC 6th POY Janae Poisson, so they too are losing a ton.

Also, although not MAC-related, I see that Iowa State has 3 players in the portal already, including the post that started against Toledo.

Kent State gets the 1st transfer in, 6'2 5th year player, Mikala Morris from Quinnipiac. Originally from Springfield, OH. 1000 point, 800 rebound career player.

That’s a really nice pick up for Kent.

RE: MAC WBB Transfer Portal: 2023
I wondered if Felder would stick around to play on a poor Bobcat team. With the new transfer rules, I expect that bad teams will frequently lose their good players. We may continue to see more seasons like this past one in the MAC, where the distance between the top tier and the bottom tier is vast.

Great get for Kent. The Flashes have some talent coming back but really needed a post player. With Shumate, Houser, and Santoro returning, the Flashes should be pretty good. Starkey has never gotten them over the hump, though. They usually play well in November and December and then fade.

Thanks for being such a great source of WBB news, northcoast.

Not transfer-related, but Miami today reported that Peyton Scott, Amani Freeman and Jordon Tuff are all coming back for their 5th years. I assume that means that coach Hendrix will finish out her contract next season as well.

And another ISU player in the portal, 6' G Lexi Donarski, who was B12 defensive POY in 21-22. She had Q most of the game, and didn't do well stopping her tho. Also a 1200 point scorer in 3 seasons. Jansen replacement?

Really good news for Miami. This team has some talented players. I'm surprised they did so poorly this year. Perhaps they will add a piece or two and have a decent team next year.

Well, so much for the good news for Miami. The Next Hoops (an org that covers women's basketball) is reporting that Ivy Wolf has put her name in the portal. I have not been able to confirm that from another source yet, but if true that will hurt Miami's chances next year, even with Scott and Freeman returning.

RE: MAC WBB Transfer Portal: 2023
Well this is interesting ... reports coming out that Akron is going to hire former Rocket and long time Iowa State assistant Latoja Schaben (nee Harris) as their next coach. Originally from Mansfield, she's been with Fennelly for 26 years as a coach, after playing for him at UT. I always wondered why she never got the chance to move onto a a HC job in all that time, and always thought she might be a candidate for the Toledo job if it opened.

Assuming this is true, this may explain the exodus of players from ISU, as they just had a 5th player declare for the portal - 3 of them starters. Could any of them end up at Akron? Could quickly jump start that program if so. Very interesting development.

The source in question...don't know that they will be another considering the lack of coverage of Miami athletics in general, and her lack of a social media presence. She is from Minster, OH though, so it isn't like she would be going closer to home by transferring anywhere...appears to be searching for an upgrade.

This tweet regarding Schaben and Akron also mentions that a successful P6 coach is in the running for the Michigan State job, so maybe Fralick will not end up at MSU.

Amaka Agugua-Hamilton, the current Virginia Head Coach, was an assistant under Merchant at Michigan State for 7 years. No idea of any other connection to MSU, but that may be a person of interest.

The press covering WBB is seriously failing this year in the coaching rumors, as Schaben will NOT be the Akron HC, as they just announced they are hiring Ryan Gensler, most recently an assistant at Illinois. He's fairly young and has no head coaching experience. Followed Green from Dayton to Illinois, after having a few other stints before that including video coordinator at Florida.

Yep...hell, there were people saying Cullop was getting hired at UC to which I just laughed. There really isn't a national media network for WBB, and most of the schools/geographic areas don't care about WBB enough to make an effort to build local press interest either.
