i think this speaks more to people giving a wink and a nod to the women's program...and women's sports in general...like they care about it when they really don't. that's not going to change overnight. we're spoiled to have a program that almost always plays for the title so maybe more people were planning to come down saturday. honestly i had other plans if we lost in the semis but not in the quarters. it's not shocking i'm on my couch watching vcu...but not what i was expecting for sure.

dan...you came in from indiana last year so i'm not talking about you. i'm not talking about the students either. our core fan base is small enough on the men's side and even smaller on the women's side so i'm not sure how many people i expected. we deserved better. i planned vacation time about a year ago to be down there yesterday.

i wasn't going to say anything until i watched kei's press conference with coach mallon. she deserved better.

You're not going to get much of a crowd for a game on a Friday afternoon 2 hours from Philadelphia. Kudos to you and your family to making it down there. I think that if Drexel had won yesterday, you'd have a hundred or so down there today, mostly friends and family of the players, and if they had gotten to the title game, there would have been a nice crowd down there on Sunday. I was considering going on Sunday, but unable to for the other games.

Not sure if you were around during the women's first championship in 2009, or if you were fullfilling your military duties during that time, but I remember there was an amazing turnout for the semi-finals and finals down at JMU, which is 4 hours away. Drexel will never have the fanbase like JMU who will travel several hours for a WBB quarterfinal. But they still have nice support for the women's program compared to many mid-major level schools who don't have WBB the time of day.

Our women always have deserved better support no doubt, but it has generally always been friend and family with a handful of regulars. For me, of course its not easy to make it to games. I was hoping to be wrong about this team. I told my boss if they cut the nets down I was taking off to wherever they were sent, since I missed the '09 tournament due to being a student and not having the ability to get to new mexico, I wasnt going to miss the next opportunity. Unfortunately Philly is a tough sell for college sports if you arent a top national team. Even tougher for women's sports. That being said, its always been great that the school supports them and continues to pony up funds to make WNIT home games etc. And even in '09 when Hazem sent a full bus down on short notice to JMU. Was worth it. Always is.

In other news, Towson pulled away in the 4th today and Monmouth beat NU relatively easily. So we have Towson vs Monmouth for the title tomorrow.

RE: CAA Women's Basketball Tournament
Congratulations to Ginny Boggess and Monmouth for winning the CAA Championship in their first season and become the first 7 seed to ever win and first ever team to win 4 games in 4 days, and they did so by beating each of the CAA Regular Season Co-Champions.

I'm still bitter for losing to Towson down in Delaware 4 years ago, and also bitter to see Drexel lose twice on their home court as the 1 seed. So I was rooting for Monmouth and thrilled to see Towson not only lose in a championship on their own court, but they got the living sh#t beat out of them too. That team went into mega quit mode in the final couple of minutes after the awful technical foul on Towson.

agree on both counts there. monmouth definitely deserved a lot of credit for how things went against us. it was anybody's tournament and they put it together at the right time.

i've never been a big fan of the towson program. i wasn't watching since we were at a hockey game but we were talking about towson probably quitting as we saw the score get out of hand. their post player in particular has a terrible attitude.

i have to say...i wasn't excited to find out we're getting a wnit bid. hate to be the debbie downer but that's how i feel. last year was tough enough coming off the delaware loss. if i knew we were cut down on kei's shots and maybe play a few more bench players...i'd be all for it. a game vs penn would be ok. otherwise i'm all in on the world baseball classic.

Definitely congrats to Monmouth. 16 seed play in game isnt sexy for the conference, but not unexpected from a 7 seed out of the conference. March is the time to play your best ball and they did that. Hopefully they keep it up and win a game for the conference as well.
