I also hated that they had such an awesome team nickname, being the Rockets. As an adult, of course, I don't hate them. It's really hard for me to hate any program. They still have an awesome nickname too.

Ha! Back in the day (also a kid, '91 babies for the win!), I hated Marshall because of their dominance over Toledo in the MAC championship games. However, the 2001 UT title win really helped solidify that intense, short-lived rivalry. You guys owned the MAC in a time where Toledo could've been king the whole time. Would love to renew a series with you guys in football.

I agree that Toledo is deserving but look at their non conference schedule. Not a single Power Conference opponent. Makes no sense at all especially this year. They had a veteran loaded roster and could have beaten a lot of three type teams. Why not schedule them?

Selection committee looks mainly at “who you beat”…Toledo beat a few good Mid-Majors and that’s it.

I knew Kent had no chance at an-large bid as well. They played 2 powers (#1 Houston and #9 Gonzaga), nearly won both but did not win.

At-large NCAA tourney teams have at least a few quality wins on their resume.

True, it’s a shame the MAC is a one bid conference and only the winner from last night game moves on.

We’ve talked about scheduling on the Toledo board—problem is not many P5 schools want to play good MAC schools like Kent or Toledo. Even Kent’s best opponents—Houston, Gonzaga & Charleston—aren’t P5 (but all 3 have darn good basketball pedigrees, for sure!). In fact, Arkansas pulled out if a scheduled game against the Rockets & then replaced them with some “little sisters of the poor” school instead. This is why the NET is a joke for NCAA tournament selection purposes: mid-majors get punished when good P5 schools won’t even play them.

F off with Power teams... UAB #1 mid major coming into the season. Richmond a sweet 16 team from last year returning a home and home. George Mason, Northern Kentucky, Vermont, Marshall, UNI... that schedule is absolutely fine. We just lost 2 games in a tourney in November when Cochran first got hurt and are cursed in Cleveland.

Just hope for MAC's sake Toledo gets NIT bid.

It's not a given.

They will be an AQ for the NIT since they were regular season champs.

They only seed the top 4 teams in each region now. They did away with seeding 5-8 as they instead just assign opponents based off of what minimizes travel. This site is projecting Toledo playing Michigan in round one, which wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.

Edu should start. Playing Dickenson is a once in a lifetime thing for a post player from the MAC. Build for the future.

YES ... IT IS A GIVEN!!!

Conference champs are automatic NIT qualifiers if they don't make NCAA Tournament.

Even w/losses to Houston-Gonzaga-Charleston ... Kent State was mid-30s in the NET until losing to Northern Illinois. If Kent wins that one and loses only 1 of Akron-Ball State, they would have been in the at-large conversation going into MAC title game.

That's how finite the razors edge is for the NCAA Tournament ... but also the reason to play Houston-Gonzaga-Charleston no matter what, and no matter where.

Non jokingly, do other fanbases have an opinion of Toledo. Is everyone's own school the best in the conference in their heads?

Fans, Toledo is the gold standard of the MAC for sure. Best facilities, great attendance and the center of the sports universe in NW Ohio. You also pay your coaches way more $$ and as a result, you are always at the top of the conference.

It makes sense, you enjoy a certain niche.

You are a BIG metro area with regards to the MAC. Kzoo, Muncie, Mt Pleasant, DeKalb, Athens, Oxford and Bowling Green don't have your concentrated population. While EMU, Buffalo and Kent do, they also have to compete for attention with nearby large universities or pro sports teams for advertising dollars and support that you don't.

I love Toledo, but when you start on third base and act like you hit a triple ...

Bowling Green is PART of the Toledo metro.

Not that anyone in NW Ohio wants to claim BGSTDU.
