Yeah three in my group are JMU/UVA fans... But at least they aren't the least bit split and wearing any UVA gear when it comes down to it, they're full on JMU when we play UVA. Still though.

Will the school be running buses and possible ticket/ride packages for the students?

They need to and they need to in mass quantity. Don’t cap it. When a bus fills up, reserve another one annd keep going until the day before the game. Offer student tickets, but also Offer ticket+bus packages too. Make it hard for students to say no…Have a few drinks on the hour bus ride to the game, watch the Dukes win, maybe take a Power Nap on the one hour ride back home. Proceed to party. COGS

Gametime will be a difference maker for those students who travel in their own vehicles. If it is a mid afternoon game, they can go to the game and still be back on campus before dark, then rally for an all night victory celebration in the Burg. Too early or too late will scare some of them off.

I went to a couple of games at UVA while in college when the football team had a BYE week. I couldn’t afford a ticket so I would stand on the hill with thousands of people drinking beers that people would sell out of rolling coolers. That view is no longer available with UVA’s colonnade. But it was a super easy trip and I was back at JMU before dark both times.

What percentage of the stadium is locals anyways?

I feel like the majority come from DC and RVA and that trip is half the haul.

Plus H'Burg locals only having to drive an hour.

I'll go with 15K.

It's a shame that the UVA game is their home opener because they will probably have more fans there.
I do wonder if they get stomped by Tennessee (which they probably will) if that will have any impact on their attendance.
How many UVA fans still think we are an FCS team? They will probably see our game as an easy win.

Given it’s their first game since that horrific tragedy, it will have many eyes on it across the nation. Also will probably provide extra motivation and a lift for the Wahoos.

I've been a loyal fan for half of that time. The interest is there among the most avid followers as well as the casual fans. I just don't think we have more than 20,000 of them ready to head to Scott Stadium in September. I hope I can eat crow for all 4 quarters. I hope they're so butthurt over the purple-takeover and the triple digit win that they don't schedule us for another 40 years.

Was following your mindset (though disagree) until that last sentence.

My hope is UVA has a (rare) sellout, and feels financially obliged to schedule this as home and home series going forward. Then in 10 years when BFS expands and we've made a few CFP's, we can add them as our home opener buy game 03-lmfao

i don't actually want them to never schedule us again. I hope it's the start of a regular regional rivalry.

The die-hards will go, and sure it's a "day-trip" that they don't have to have lodging expenses etc, but in the average student's mind they're not going to shell out the money to travel and give up their whole day for it. They'll day-drink at their friend's house and maybe watch it online but probably forget there's a football game once the party starts.

That's definitely possible. But it's only an hour and a half away, and given how most in-state JMU students at least know someone who is going to UVA (most of whom WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT IT), the opportunity to set a few things straight would be quite welcome.

Sunday driver!!
Should be around an hour-probably a little less with college age kids driving. 03-shhhh

Yeah, well. :-)

Actually, every time I try to deal with Charlottesville, I find it always takes considerably longer to get to whatever spot in C'ville I'm seeking, unless I'm really just going to Ruckersville or the airport.

I don't know for sure, but if I were to guess I would say either 131 or 539
The JMU ticket office should know.

Just picked up 4 at $29. I usually get tickets through JMU, but this one might be harder to get than usual.

If you're planning on going, I'd go ahead and purchase a way into the stadium and worry about the specific seats later.

rateyourseats says:
Designated Visitor Seating at Scott Stadium is scattered throughout the stadium. This includes all of Section 113 and at least some rows in sections 510-524.
https://www.rateyourseats.com/scott-stad...or-section

I would think you wouldn't be able to buy seats in the visitors section yet (they haven't been issued, thus can't be sold)

I offer this based on a guess with no experience at this venue: the visitor sideline seating of the stadium will receive all of the afternoon sun. Looks sweaty over there in early September on all that concrete.

Right. I was hoping I could buy around the visitor section if I don't get my tickets fulfilled through JMU.

At the ODU game last season the ODU band and most of the ODU fans were in the upper corner - maybe around 516. If it’s an afternoon game, I recommend avoiding the seating in the lower half of the diagram unless you want to feel like one of those rotisserie chickens getting roasted all afternoon.
