RE: Bill sending $350,000,000
Great news!! I'm actually hoping to one day Memphis gets a ACC bid. Geographically we could fit in either the B12 or ACC and academically probably more so the B12 but if the ACC gets raided I would like to be back in a conference with Louisville.

AAC to ACC sounds pretty good to me.

The ACC grant of rights runs till the 2035-36 season. Assuming that holds up, and the experts say it will, then there will be no ACC movement until around 2034. Whatever is being done in this renovation will be around ten years old when the next round of conference expansion is likely to occur.

The reality is the city already had The Liberty Bowl and FedExForum and couldn't afford to properly maintain and improve either of them without a bailout from the state. They won't be able to maintain the newly renovated facilities either.

Maybe we should start building an OCS instead?

Nope. Decision is made. Die is cast. The Claw saw his shadow. There will be fifty more years of off-campus football.

Then why keep debating it and continuing the negativity? We are most likely getting the grant. It's a good thing no matter how you look at it. Be happy.

I'm not debating anything. That's over.

I don't like it. I don't expect the city to execute this well, and I fully expect 15 to 20 years from now we will be right back where we are today. If I live that long, I'll be here to rub it in or eat crow.

It is up to you folks that live there to see that doesn't happen this time. I hope it's different this time, but it won't be unless those of you who live there hold the city's feet to the fire.

Cool. Let’s get the grant thing on 15-20 year repeat then. Go ahead and add the recurring meeting to Outlook. We’ll take at least $500MM next time due to inflation.

You said that it wouldn't happen, then you said we would have to pay for all of it, then there would be no money for it, then you said they would start it but wouldn't finish it because they would run out of money, then you said that the plans are to do only one side of the stadium and leave the other side exactly as it is, now.

Of course you don't expect the city to execute it well. 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

RE: Bill sending $350,000,000
It will be interesting to see how this bill comes out of committee & is signed by the governor - the actual amount approved, its specificity etc. Mayor requested a total of $600M+ for a basket full of projects to appease everyone with a hand out. The $350M in the bill matches the request for the LB & FedExF - only. But there will be a new mayor & continued special interests to attempt to divert funds for the MSC demolition/soccer stadium, AutoZone Park etc. & who knows what else. I'm hoping the legislature, knowing how special interest lobbying works, includes very specific terms for funds use that include a specific amount for the LB & a specific amount for FedExF - and also makes sure no funds can be diverted to other projects to even include other fairgrounds projects.

Amazing what a Republican super majority can get accomplished. I see where Willie Herenton announced he’s running for mayor again. Guess he heard about $350m coming and figured he’d get his hand back in the cookie jar.

Willie wanted a new domed stadium downtown.

Jim Strickland also deserves much of the credit for this. It was his deal, he convinced Cam Sexton. This was a bi-partisan effort to benefit Memphis. It's a good thing.

What are they going to do to FedEx Forum? the details have been very vague.

We haven't seen actual plans for the stadium either. Just artist's renderings.

That is more than I know about the Forum though.

Good! I had the over on how many days until this thread went OCS argument, and I thought you had already blown it. But it looks like I might still be in play....

I believe Claw already shot that volley.

Nope. My OCS book is closed. I am in the "Impress me with the Liberty Bowl upgrades" phase.

Conference hopes are another issue. The PAC-10 still doesn't have a TV deal. The Big XII wants to take four or more of their leftovers for themselves. If any PAC-10 schools move to the Big XII, Memphis' hopes of a Big XII membership are over. We have no control over any of that regardless of stadiums. The outlook is not good.

The PAC 10 will survive because of the expanded playoff. The top 6 conference champions are guaranteed a spot so I doubt if any PAC is willing to make that lateral move to the Big 12. They will get similar money to the Big 12.

Only people who believe multiple PAC teams are moving to B12 are to ones who have been drinking way too much B12 Kool-Aide. Once the PAC expands & signs their new TV deal, it’s going to be in same ball park as the upcoming B12 deal & current ACC deal. There will be no need for a PAC team to move to the B12 since money is same & path to CFP likely easier in PAC.

Yep the PAC may even grow could even take TT and OSU. The AAC will be a large very competitive conference and may be a better option than the bigxi eventually. The national college football championship tournament will not remain at 12 for too long. It should expand to 16 with 8 conference champions hosting home field 1st round games. even if that doesn't happen being the AAC champion could on occasion be higher rated than 1 or 2 so called p5 champions.
