I'm guessing he misses the south ... IMO, that's the bigger deal (good thing)...

#goodLuck

He was good too... not quite a Hartwell or Jones though.

He's remembered for hiring Chip Lindsey... and that just doesn't help.

Understand Chip Lindsey was a hot commodity. He was an OC for us with Monk.. Then he went to Arizona State, then to Auburn where he was an analyst and OC, then he landed at Troy. Now he's back as an OC..

I wanted him as a HC after Monk left, but in hindsight maybe that might've been a good thing he wasn't one for us. Some people are better at being coordinators than HC..

Chip Lindsey may be one of those guys.. I'm pretty sure Dennis Allen is..

Chip Lindsey was not a hot commodity. He went from being an OC at Auburn to the OC at Kansas right before he got to Troy. That's a downward move.

There were absolutely ZERO Troy fans that were excited when he was hired. He had no charisma and no energy.

It's known that one reason McClain hired him is because he already knew Lindsey during their time together at Southern Miss, and thought he knew what to expect.

If there is another AD at Troy at that time NOT named Jeremy McClain, then Lindsey doesn't get hired.

If we hire Hartwell it gives me much more hope for the future of ULM athletics. To me this is a make or break hire and shows how serious we are about our athletics program and competing in the SBC. We are way behind in budget and facilities and it’s amazing that we do as well as we do. (not saying much). Hiring Hartwell would show me President Berry is serious about turning the program around. Word is he would turn over all athletics decisions to Hartwell and completely start from the ground up with athletics. God please let us make this hire. He is the only candidate having an open forum with community and meeting with students, spirit groups, and athletics. I think he is the hire and the rest is just a formality. Surely you wouldn’t do this and then not hire him or him not take the job. Would like like idiots…but this is ULM.

I really want this to work for ULM too. Y'all have been at a disadvantage for so long I'm not sure how much more ULM or the fans can take.

Y’all know me and my negativity for things ULM, this is an absolute home run of epic proportions for ULM. The national media will take note and this is a sign that Berry means business. Hopefully this is the beginning of meaningful change.

I don’t know that the national media will take note, but it would definitely be a great hire.

This isn't a Scott McDonald or Brian Wickstrom hire; this will move the needle.

He would be a home run hire for ULM. Hated it when he left. Great fundraiser, great communicator, and he's the one responsible for our now current logo, the T. He would be a fantastic get for ULM and is exactly what you've needed for so long.

Have known John since he was at The Citadel. He's as fine of a person as you'd ever want to meet and a fine administrator. He would be a huge win for ULM. I'd be happy to have him at App.

I was so impressed with him today and his vision for ULM. I personally think it is a done deal and I have heard as much, but don’t have confirmation. Very, very excited if he is the hire.

Went back and watched the forum again and was able to pay closer attention to what he was saying and how he was saying it. Simply incredible. Listening to him it's easy to tell that he believes whole heartedly in what he says and has every intention to do everything in his power to accomplish every goal he sets for himself and his department. Hartwell is a MUST HAVE for ULM Athletics. EOD.

I know we seem overly excited about getting a competent AD, but if you knew our history with AD hires you would know why.

RE: John Hartwell
He sounds like a fine candidate. I love how he was able to speak without reading anything or even following notes. He seems to have a lot of connections and has been very successful - especially on the basketball side of things at USU. I’m not sure why he poached Anderson from Arkansas State though. I also like how he won over the people in the room by trying to poke fun at Louisiana by referring to us as U la la, but if you’ve ever been on our campus, you’d know exactly why - the coed’s will make you think that. He also brings up a great point about pushing athletes towards degrees with least resistance such as sociology. Get them into fields where they can be productive and make a difference.

I wish he would have left that water bottle alone a little but we all show nervousness without knowing it. Otherwise, he sounds to be the perfect fit for ULM and Monroe. It even seems like he’s already been chosen with all the dinners he’s been having too…haha. Iron sharpens iron. Get him and get better!
