There is still great basketball being played in Memphis. It is not the Tigers team who is doing that. Don't bet on the Tigers until they at least start playing well.

I love the grizzlies. But it doesn’t hit the same as the tigers for me. Maybe the memories as a little kid watching them in the pyramid. Working crazy shifts at fed ex and listening to the games on AM radio. I’m sure there are plenty with similar memories but in the coliseum.

Went to games with my dad at the field house. Than the coliseum. Then the pyramid. He got too old to go to Fedx forum. So I paid $5000 a year to get lower bowl tickets. Stopped when pastner screwed things up. Now have 2 tickets to griz. More expensive. But much more entertaining. World of difference between average to mediocre college basketball and NBA. Sorry. Just the facts.

At this point I wouldn't bet a dime on the Tigers to do much of anything right.

Lots of fond memories of the Coliseum, including my first ever concert. Perhaps it's due to nostalgia, but I remember music always sounding so good in there.

I’m not dumping on the Coliseum because I saw some good shows there. But I was always disappointed when they weren’t at the Auditorium. I saw great shows there. Sound wise, there was no comparison.

Sure, but that's not quite the apples to apples comparison. I was comparing it to other large venues from days past, like the Pyramid. The sound there was truly awful.
If we can pick and choose any venue we want with no regard to size or design intention, then give me the New Daisy Theatre, GPAC, Minglewood Hall, or the Canon Center over any basketball arena.

You mentioned the first shows you went to so I thought of the first I went to. That was my only comparison. Back then it was one or the other. Simple nostalgia.

Completely understand. Hard to have the best sound in such a large space, that's for sure, especially compared to purpose-built facilities. Among other arenas I've visited for concerts, the Coliseum compared very favorably. Unfortunately, with top touring productions, one often doesn't have a choice but to see them in an arena.
Glad to see the Coliseum will be repurposed. Many of us have fond memories of the place. It would be so wasteful to let it sit idle or worse be demolished.
