Guy on floor with microphone really got the crowd up. And what a monster comeback! Most exciting 4th quarter EVER, coming back from 17 down and losing the entire game. Way to go Huskies!!!!
For me, March 14, 1990 ...
... the 1990 women's NCAA Tournament, in which at-large NIU hosted and defeated Texas Tech in the Evans Fieldhouse, winning 84-63 in a First Round game. Packed house. I still have an old vcr tape of the entire game, which recorded at home on cable/timer while I was at Evans. (NIU next lost in Round Two at Purdue 86-81.)
NIU was 25-4 (12-0 North Star Conference, where the old rivalries with DePaul and Wisconsin-Green Bay came from).
(Note: the 1990 tournament was only 48 teams. Makes an at-large bid even bigger. It expanded to 64 in 1994.).
(Second note: As I recall, NIU as an at-large was booked into the Midwest Regional/Austin, Texas, so the Red Raiders were supposed to host. But TTU had an immovable event or some project work at its facility, so the game was shifted to Evans @ NIU.)
Don'tcha love history?!
Ps. to Dog Fan. See the NIU highlight video; shows flashing red/white lights over the team right after winning. Terrific effect even on video.
