WBB Toledo here 1 p.m. > NIU WINS
ESPN3 and 1330 am.

NIU is 8-4 (0-1). Biggest win over DePaul, which didn't start off strong but is now 10-6 with some hefty wins. Makes NIU look better, I guess.

Toledo 10-2 (1-0). Wins over Cincinnati, Dayton, #14 Michigan, and a 1-pt loss to Penn State. MAC win was over WMU.

Crazy low scoring game, NIU still in it if they get it together. Down by 9 with 5 minutes left.

RE: WBB Toledo here 1 p.m.
33-23 UT at the half.

No glaringly obvious mistakes, except maybe UT 18-to-10 points in the paint and shooting 44.1% to NIU's 26.7. Everything else pretty much even or mostly. NIU has made 5 of 7 freethrows and UT is 0-0; take those off and it would be UT 33-18 (but of course, not).

Great second half by the Huskies! They needed this win after three bad losses. Davis and Koker played great, but Hunter and McCrea had some clutch plays too.

Hope they can get on a roll again after this one. Really the best sport NIU has going right now after all the fall sports didn’t do the greatest.

RE: WBB Toledo here 1 p.m. > NIU WINS
NIU out-scored UT 31-13 in the 4th. Official attendance 613, which IMO is a little better than previous (though no fb and mbb on the road).

Huskies 9-4 (1-1).
UT 10-3 (1-1).

Next: @WMU (5-7/0-1) 6 p.m. Weds. Jan. 11. (Was at UT just before the NIU-UT game; lost to Rockets 71-53).

Next next: home again, vs. Ohio, 1 p.m. Sat. Jan. 14 ... another good one for a Saturday afternoon.

(No tv yet).

I am happy for the win over a good MAC WBB team but then I get dismayed over the 3 loses in a row against lesser competition. I guess I have to put it in the past and enjoy this moment.

Much needed win to get out of that bad losing streak. Good job lady Huskies!

How do we have three straight losses to bad teams then beat a good team like Toledo?

This team must play up for better competition and just not care about the bad teams.

WBB Toledo here 1 p.m. > NIU WINS
Perhaps the most exciting game I have ever attended. Everything was perfect. Bigger crowd who was very much into the game. Guy on floor with microphone really got the crowd up. And what a monster comeback! Most exciting 4th quarter EVER, coming back from 17 down and losing the entire game. Way to go Huskies!!!!

I also really appreciated the usher asking to check our tickets. I thanked her and told her that I really appreciate what she’s doing, especially considering the past issues I’ve had. I told her to keep it up.

Lots of water vending machines in the Convo. Water is $4.00 a bottle.

Flashing red and white lights when the Huskies take the floor. Very nice and professional touch. Lighting was much better throughout the game.

Sounds like someone was listening to your concerns.

What I like about your post is that someone is going about improving fan game experience the right way for NIU. You don't have to throw money to improve the experience to a fan. Most of the time it is little tweaks that will do it.

Even if they paid a consultant to get these improvements, it was money well spent.

When the band starts showing up and more cheerleaders and dance team and some students in the student section it will help a lot with atmosphere. Music needs to be louder it makes it feel like a bigger more crowded event. The DJ would help.

I was at the game and Toledo had a nice crowd at the game. NIU seems to be struggling shooting. Huskies we’re horrible for 3 quarters and then basically Davis and Koker won the game in the 4th quarter. It was a great win but most games you can’t win with only 1 good quarter

For me, March 14, 1990 ...

... the 1990 women's NCAA Tournament, in which at-large NIU hosted and defeated Texas Tech in the Evans Fieldhouse, winning 84-63 in a First Round game. Packed house. I still have an old vcr tape of the entire game, which recorded at home on cable/timer while I was at Evans. (NIU next lost in Round Two at Purdue 86-81.)

NIU was 25-4 (12-0 North Star Conference, where the old rivalries with DePaul and Wisconsin-Green Bay came from).

(Note: the 1990 tournament was only 48 teams. Makes an at-large bid even bigger. It expanded to 64 in 1994.).

(Second note: As I recall, NIU as an at-large was booked into the Midwest Regional/Austin, Texas, so the Red Raiders were supposed to host. But TTU had an immovable event or some project work at its facility, so the game was shifted to Evans @ NIU.)

Don'tcha love history?!

Ps. to Dog Fan. See the NIU highlight video; shows flashing red/white lights over the team right after winning. Terrific effect even on video.

RE: WBB Toledo here 1 p.m. > NIU WINS
Post post ... I would love to see an NIU WBB team make it to the Big Dance again. Do they even do first-rounders at home any more?

FYI: Current up-to-date wbb rankings per the NCAA ... MAC teams ... Total 361 teams ...

58 Bowling Green St.
60 Toledo
81 Ball State
111 Kent State
125 Akron
174 NIU
203 EMU
207 Buffalo
231 WMU
259 Miami-O
278 Ohio
279 CMU

Through Jan. 7 games, so includes NIU win over UT.
