“ Jarred Holley was hired on January 13, 2023, as an assistant coach with the James Madison University football program, working primarily with the cornerbacks.
Holley joins JMU after spending the previous two seasons at North Texas (2021-22), where he held the same position.
In his two seasons in at North Texas, Holley guided a pair of corners to All-Conference USA status, with Ridge Texada earning First Team honors in 2022 and DeShawn Gaddie taking home Honorable Mention status in the same season. His top cornerback duo combined for 27 pass breakups and three interceptions in 2022.
In his first season with the program, North Texas finished fifth in the conference in pass defense and the defense posted the biggest improvement of any FBS program in 2021 by cutting its total yards allowed by nearly 150 yards per game.
North Texas reached the Conference USA championship game in 2022 and earned berths to the Frisco Bowl in each of his two seasons with the Mean Green.
Prior to UNT, Holley was the safeties coach and passing game coordinator at Albany from 2018-20. He was part of a coaching staff to lead Albany to its first FCS playoff win during the 2019 season. The Great Danes finished with a 9-5 record that year, matching their most wins since 2012 and reaching the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2011.
He began his coaching career at Arizona State (2015-17), where he was a graduate assistant and analyst for the Sun Devils, working with special teams and the defensive staff.
Holley was a four-year starting safety at Pitt, where he played from 2008-12. He was twice named to the Big East All-Conference Team, making the first team in 2011 and second team in 2010. He finished his collegiate career with 244 tackles, 11 interceptions, 13 pass breakups and a pair of fumble recoveries. Off the field he was twice named to the Big East All-Academic Team.
He was also college teammates with current JMU Offensive Coordinator Mike Shanahan and Quarterbacks Coach Tino Sunseri. Holley earned two bachelor’s degrees from Pitt, with one in communication and rhetoric in 2011 and another in administration of justice in 2013.”
