RE: Ken Niumatalolo fired by Navy after 15 years
Looks like Ruin is going to have to learn how to beat another team on the road in conference, considering those are his only two road conference victories in two years, talk about a sinking ship, am I right?

Road conference schedule is stout this upcoming season - we may be able to squeak by Temple, UAB, Charlotte & North Texas.

I really don't know if it was a good move by Navy. It's only so much you can do there. He had his best teams when the AAC was at its best.

If Silverfield can't win 10 games next season plus whatever happens in the bowl he can't ever do it.

He did great things at Navy. Long 15 year run. Sometimes you just have to mix it up.

I thought he did well with the type of players that he could get.

Realistically is there a downside or an upside for Navy? He clearly had picked at Navy. The cost of getting rid of him and having a few losing seasons is not much for them. Just like they do not really ever expect to compete for NC. After 15 years he was probably being paid much more than they can hire a replacement for without much difference in overall record...

The conference has pretty much learned how to defense against the Navy offense. They'll have a tough time changing offenses, they already have a tough time recruiting & now NIL & the transfer portal will make it tougher since the service academies don't take transfers & they don't pay NIL. But they should have beat Army & that probably cost him his job.

Completely agree - the old minimum standard for regular season wins was 8, which was generous enough based on our schedule.

With this even weaker conference schedule, the minimum bar to clear should never be less than 9-10 wins in the regular season. If we do not have double digit victories next season it's time to move on.

Niumatalolo is a solid coach who did about as well as anybody could have at Navy. I commend him for staying for 15 years.

But our AD says the minimum std is 6 wins & a bowl game. So we can continue to have a losing conference record & beat 3 cupcakes OOC. Maybe RS understood this when he said this was his dream job & he'd never leave....

RE: Ken Niumatalolo fired by Navy after 15 years
meh
He was good for a while there.
He exploited the goodwill of refs with chop-blocking schemes.
And he took advantage of the Navy prep academy to recruit big 40+ player classes, then weeded them out before they got to the service academy.
He had chances to move on years ago, but stayed there.
oh well

he was lobbying the Navy to allow 5th year seniors to play...something that Air Force and the Army allow, but not Navy.

he was going to have 18 returning starters next season...in a weakened AAC...a lot of folks thought he could have a better year.

Those are good points. Hope they don't become really bad.

Once again belittling the Tiger schedule is inaccurate. A ten win season next season would be a significant accomplishment for either Fuente or Norvel. The need for Silverfield to improve as a head coach is obvious so to is the challenge he faces. I hope he succeeds I just can't watch his team if he continues to sabotage their opportunities. I am miserable now but I am not a miserable. I don't make up cr*p to make myself feel bad.

Wasn't expecting this move at all. I wish him the best moving forward, but it does seem that the rest of the AAC figured out their offense and there was nothing else he can do. Recruited players (especially his O-line) that fit his style of play. He also didn't have that premier QB recently like Keenan Reynolds.

Agree about the schedule - you never know. And next year on the road will be tough for Ryan.
But you might be forgetting that over the last 2 years of Fuente thru all of Norvell's tenure (6 yr period) we AVERAGED 10 wins.
