I was ready to write this team off, but they are looking better. They just beat a 9-1, Norfolk St team, that was ranked higher than the Monarchs. ODU crushed the cross-town rival, 65-44. When they get dialed in, they seem to be playing as a group. ODU is 8-3, after starting 2-3.

ODU's schedule is weak. Norfolk State has a great record, but they 0 wins against teams with winning records.

ODU has beaten one team with a winning record, as well as lost to Elon. ODU had an embarrassing performance where they struggled to beat Lincoln, PA (non-D1 school). It was a 7 point game in the 3rd qtr.

I always love "struggled" to beat because for a brief period it was a 7 point game (and ended up as a 17 point win)

It's completely subjective, but I expect more from the program.

I will say, they absolutely took control during the NSU game, wasn't really that much of a question by halftime. Only thing we need to work on is 3 pt shooting, as that was pretty dreadful for the entire game. But ODU has a good chance to lead the Sun Belt in WBB this year.

Well get prepared to be disappointed then. I'm not quite sure what you were/are expecting with the program this year. People who think that ODU is getting back to pre-2000 WBB are delusional, as we are no longer in the "P5" landscape for the sport. Do I continue to cheer for the team? Absolutely. But thinking we are going undefeated within non-conference and "should be blowing teams out by 30+" is not reasonable. Where have they misstepped this year where it wasn't already expected? Maybe take away one of their losses, and they're sitting at 9-2 at best. Regardless, they are where I hoped they would be at this point in the non-conference schedule. Now, they've still got some good tests coming up next week. I feel they are continuing to gel, and again at this point, they're trending in the right direction. Now let's hope they continue on for the rest of their non-conference and go into the conference schedule strong.

USA is only 4-11 so I expected the win, but ODU went out and almost doubled them up!!

Its disappointing that the ladies' game last night against the Ragin Cajuns hasn't been posted and/or commented on, at all, by anyone. Well, they lost the game, 51-61, and doubly disappointing that their top scorer, Lanay Wheaton, wore a Monarch jersey only last year. You can't help but wonder what made her leave. She had 20 points!
I've also come to the final conclusion that this certainly isn't the year to expect major improvement in the women's game. Outside of Amari Young and perhaps a few others, this current squad doesn't have what it takes. Knowing we had a lot of transfers join the team at the beginning of the year, I opted to wait till halfway through the season before formulating an opinion, hoping Coach Milton-Jones and staff would somehow find a way to harmonize the skill set each player brought to the table, to have the team performing at a higher level as the season wore on, but that hasn't worked. At some point you also start wondering whether the coaching staff is up to the task. Again, very disappointing outcome last night.

Excellent post, Ziggy. I have made my opinion known on the women’s team. I will add this it starts at the top (Wood). The athletic department puts out releases like we are supposed to be happy with being the mid-major top 25. Give me a break. That is not the heritage of our women’s program!!! It has plummeted to below mediocrely under his admin.

Its been steadily moving downward since Coach Nikki left (and the upward trajectory she had us on) and I don't see it improving under the current coaching staff.
