Our Founders told us our Constitution is meant for a religiously moral people. They gave us the warning that it would not work under other circumstances.
Quote:Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
We as a people have made our choice. We no longer wish to be religiously moral. It is no wonder our form of government is falling apart.
You know this is a private school, yes?
So you're cool with whatever happens to kids at a private school?
You quoted RWT, so I can address his comment.
Yes, I know it's a private school. The only bearing this has on the assertion that the population should be religiously moral is that the private school in question is contributing to the corruption of the population.
All but one of the private Ivy League schools were founded by religious denominations:
- Harvard - 1636 - Calvinist Congregationalists
- Yale - 1701 - Calvinist Congregationalists
- Princeton - 1746 - Calvinist Presbyterians
- Columbia - 1754 - Church of England
- Penn -1755 - Church of England/Methodist
- Brown - 1764 - Baptist
- Dartmouth - 1769 - Calvinist Congregationalists
- Cornell - 1865 - Nonsectarian
The religious schools were founded first and foremost to train ministers because the duty of preaching the Gospel to the public was one of the most important aspects to maintaining a religiously moral populace.
Each colony/state thought this task was so important they would not allow ministers to serve in politics. They did not want to take time away from the minister's work.
And whether the early elementary schools were private or public, they still focused on a core religious curriculum. In fact, the primary purpose of school was to teach children how to read the Bible.
Quote:The Massachusetts Bay Colony decreed in 1647 that towns of 50 people should have a public elementary school, and those with populations of over 100 should have a Latin school. The primary function of schools at this time was to teach reading so that children learned to read the Bible. Schools also taught Puritan values and basic information about the Calvinist religion, according to Applied Research Center.
- A History of Public Schools
So, private schools can indeed make a choice: to instill religious morality in its students or to instill immorality in its students.
My argument still stands -- we have turned away from being a religiously moral population and as a result our form of government is under attack.
STILL with this stupidity?
And what the **** does any of that have to do with my simple comment that this is a private school and not run by the government?

Not sure what "affording" Ivy league schools has to do with the well above average test scores of their students.
It's pretty evident paying for connections is of greater value that merely having above average test scores. The hardest part of attending an ivy league school is getting accepted. After that, there isn't much difference from them and other good schools.
Again, has nothing to do with their test scores...which point to them having high caliber students and top-notch instruction. Usually what people with means want in a private school.
My guess is it comes down to the parents, not as much the teachers, etc. Parents that can afford this type of schooling more than likely will be more in tune and demand good performance and more willing to tutor or pay for outside tutoring.
What type of schooling?
We're likely talking about one 2 hour discussion in the midst of an entire school year...and I think someone posted up the chain that it was only to high school age kids.
And do we even know if the parents had to sign off permission beforehand?
Apologies, I will not watch garbage from anything associated with PV and 'lil Jimmy criminal.

The thing is schools like this don't take just anyone, even if they have the money. You have to score high on tests just to get in... and first sign of academic or disciplinary trouble and you're gone. So yeah, the lowest common denominator at a school like that is still a child of well above average intelligence that stays out of any real trouble at the very least and the vast majority have highly competitive parents that are very strongly concerned with reputation and image... the type that will ground their kids for a month if their names didn't show up in an awards ceremony program or honor roll list. The type or parents that feel sincere embarrassment if their child doesn't get into an Ivy League school or at least a school like UVA or Duke. Many wouldn't even tell anyone if their child wound up somewhere like Southern Illinois or Illinois State. You can't really compare schools like this to the average public school in Illinois.

Just of of curiousity...how many Dem parents on this board would break out butt-plugs and dildos in front of their own kids (under 18), at home?

For that matter, what about in front of the over-18 kids?
