RE: Brutal SBCC viewership numbers
Anyone have the SBC 2021 CCG numbers/rating?

Willing to bet it was much higher. I watched that entire game before we even joined the SBC. That game was entertaining.

Sat 4-Dec 3:30 Appalachian State - Louisiana ESPN 440,000

This was an 11-1 ranked Louisiana taking on a 10-2 App State. It’s hard going head to head with the SEC.

Well fellas, I will leave you with SWAC. Same time slot. Same competition. NOT FBS and even a WORSE channel in espn 2........ and you all still did worse........wooooffff

Ranked teams = more eyeballs. We have a solution and your presence here is poof that it's working.

Explain getting beat by an FCS conference on a lesser channel at the same time slot. Ranking argument and time slot argument out the door on this one. Trust me, me being here doesn't mean anything is working. I have no intention of watching sun belt football over any other games on.

The only way you all can rescue viewership is putting the game mid week when nothing else is on. Thats the only way to draw eyeballs like me.

Here are the numbers the two years prior to last year, but remember 2020 was the COVID year. I want that 12:00 time slot as a permanent time.
12/4/2020, 8:30p Louisiana-App State ESPN 1,010,000

RE: Brutal SBCC viewership numbers
2 things killed tv numbers.

1. SEC playing and I think the TCU vs KSU was still going on when the SBC game started and that was the best game on all day.

2. Troy demolishing CCU in the 1st quarter. Basically the game was over so early no tuned in. Even I had a hard time staying tuned in and ended up flipping over to the other games. AAC had a good matchup with ranked teams on ABC.

It was Basically a worst case scenario for our game. Just no drama or even a an exciting game a neutral could enjoy.

All of these numbers suck! Look at the Clemson-UNC number. Dear God.

You know why they suck? Conference championships don’t matter. The CFP rankings matter.

In a few years when the six highest ranked conference champs make the playoff, then these games will matter.

Friday night CCG could be fun, and drew higher ratings it appears. Believe that time slot typically does well for fcs quarter/semi finals also.

RE: Brutal SBCC viewership numbers
Fun fact: this was only the Sun Belt 's second ESPN broadcast of 2022.

The other five were on ESPN2. Multiple ESPNU and a ton of ESPN+.

As others have said, I really think this had to do with the fact our game was over so soon, I was at a ballet for my daughters, checked in at intermission and Troy had already scored 31 pts before halftime.

That’s a good point. I know others have mentioned it but I remember seeing the championship game meme thread and I was like someone should do a “boring” gif. And ultimately someone did post that.

Yea but even with all of those reasons there's still no excuse for getting out drawn by two FCS teams.

Oh, you mean the game (and team....and coach...) that ESPN has been plugging all year?

You left out the part about being rumored for several FBS jobs.

Also HBCUs are anomalies. It’s not like Austin Peay at Kennesaw State outdrew us or anything.

RE: Brutal SBCC viewership numbers
Could be that the fascination about Coastal just might be done from the national perspective (not talking about us hardcore SBC fans here.) The mullets, locker room antics, the unapologetic borderline disrespectful underdog culture that people watched to either hate or love, a no name QB's meteortic rise to stardom, and every other "Coastal vs world" campaign have been entertaining for the media and casual audience, but no one stays popular forever.

App and Coastal each had their turns bringing attention to SBC. It may be time for someone else to take the torch. As App and Coastal's glory days are waning, could be JMU's turn sell a national headline of "the next new FCS team that suddenly became a hot G5 commodity" or something similar.

I could also see JMU being the next torch bearer.

No one stays on top forever. Truly, what Coastal Carolina accomplished should be celebrated. The brand is set.

Troy accomplishing the out of nowhere championship is what everyone expected prior to the season right?

I mean, from afar it's been Troy, stAte, App State, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina all in different series of success.

Just goes to show it's all cyclical. Who the hell knows, we may be on the cusp of an ODU run for all we know.

That was my thought when first reading this thread. IMHO, Friday night would be a spectacular night for our CCG. If we play on Saturday we are pretty much always going to be up against one of the P5's. That's just the facts. Friday night would give us damn near a captive audience. Our teams and conference are starting to garner serious attention and anything we can do to highlight that makes sense to me.

I’d say at a minimum you need to have back to back championships to make that list. One of those programs didn’t accomplish that.

It really wasn't a game....

I can't watch a game with Boise State at home because their color of their field just hurts my eyes. I don't know if others feel that way. Coastal's field doesn't hurt my eyes as bad as Boise but it's still not that pleasant to look at.
