Walker waiting this long to enter really makes it seem like he would've preferred to stay here. I'd have to think he'll be getting some really big schools offering too.
I was thinking the same thing, figuring Randale would drag his feet and then eventually choose Sowder thinking he did the right thing, but by taking so long he will be left with nothing which is where we practically are at this point. Only thing that can save the mass exodus is if he somehow selects an influential coach from a power school that brings some plug and play skill guys with him. Whoever takes over will need a bunch of pieces, but most certainly needs to start with QB1.
I'm going to back track on this statement a bit. I've been thinking if we named Sowder the coach quickly we may have saved some of these transfers. But I think we have to see them commit to somewhere other than Colorado before I'll believe that. After seeing Sanders' comments to his new team where be straight up told them to hit the portal because he's bringing players with him. It sure seems like the plan is for he and Lewis to build a Jackson St Kent St hybrid in Colorado and us naming a coach wouldn't stop that.
But hey, on the bright side, I'm sure all the credits will transfer for these student athletes and they'll get their degrees on time.
Other than Cephas who is Sanders really going to take at Colorado? Schlee isn’t going and I’m sure Sanders thinks he can do better than our guys at the positions they are looking to fill.
I would think Cooper and Walker will be getting offers better than Colorado. So I would think they'd want them as well. I agree that Schlee won't though. Sanders already made it clear his son is the QB.

Also Miller, Marshall, and Washington have got some decent offers so far.

You’re right, just saw Marshall and Washington also got offers from Colorado.

I'll say this. I still feel like what's left of our roster is more talented than what it was when Lewis took over. If we make good hires we can still be competitive. But this is still pretty hard to stomach.

For Petes sake, Cooper visited Ball State. Ball State lost their stud running back.

I am beginning to wonder if the administration is purposely dragging out the hiring process for a new coach. Football enters into a "dark age period" attendance down and donations down. Justification to dropping the program to FCS level. Administration will still be able to have the Marching Band perform at half time.

Just in case you are serious, the most important factor would be whether the MAC would allow it. I don't think so. There have been FCS teams in the MAC before, but they were all working on moving up to FCS. And if they had to leave the MAC in football, would they be allowed to stay for other sports?

College sports are so different now rules can be changed. There was a time when you had to have a baseball team which Buffalo no longer has. The MAC just might decide to waive the rule if that ever happens. Not advocating it just saying it could happen.

I can see heading to a P5 or closer to home, but a lateral move further away?! He’s headed to Balls Tate.

I think that's it for this 77 year old alum. I've seen a lot over the decades and stayed a fan throughout but the NCAA rules changes over the years and the current state of college athletics finally wore me down. Sixty seasons (1963 through 2022) of KSU football and the latest developments finally broke my spirit.

RE: Football Offseason
Well, that's utterly depressing. Wonder if moving quickly on a replacement would've made a difference. Kinda surprised he'd pass up a chance to be our all time leading rusher just for a chance to stay in the same league. I'd love to hear an exit interview for what advantages he sees them having over us? Facilities? Playing winnable NC games? Or did he just feel he had to act quickly to stay on a good team because there's too much uncertainty to come back?
Anyways... Ball State got us back and then some for poaching Thomas. I'm not a fan of on conference transfers. I prefer the days when it was very taboo and only the Bubba Walters if the world would consider such a thing.

We were both 5-7 this year and they beat us 27-20 despite losing 4 of their last 5. Should have won that one and been bowl eligible but we had a QB that would rather slide than pick up a 1st down when the series/game/bowl was on the line and Cephas sat out…gotta preserve yourself for the portal.

I find it difficult to conjure up any scenario that doesn't have next season being horrible. I'm not putting myself through that by following that as a fan.

RE: Football Offseason
I have been around a little longer than Muskrat, and yes, I am frustrated. I will hold on until our AD screws up by not getting the show on the road soon. I am mindful that the portal works both ways. Maryland has lost 13 to the portal already. There are around 1200 players in the portal now. I would guess that the majority of players in the portal are as good or better than what we lost. The right hire, and 10 good replacement players and just maybe we will be off to a good restart. Remember, at some point these portal hopefuls will be scampering for slots because their dream school did not come calling. We may have something to offer.
