Exclamation Florida/Florida State Ratings
Most of the ratings for Rivalry Week aren't available but Florida-Florida State's was. 6.711 million! The only other game involving an ACC game this year with over 5 million was Florida State-LSU on the Sunday before Labor Day.

Next year the TV rights go to the SEC. If they want to do another Black Friday game, they should be able to get their Black Friday afternoon game away from Missouri-Arkansas. The problem in 2023 is that Amazon's NFL Black Friday game starts next year. I don't know if CBS can schedule a Black Friday game in prime time under their current contract. Obviously they can't air on CBS on Saturday because of something called an Iron Bowl. The last time Florida State-Florida aired on CBS was 2009 (that year the Iron Bowl was on Black Friday).

If Florida State-Florida can get on CBS, I think it's worth it for them to play on Black Friday in 2023 again. Once the SEC's rights move to ABC, they can air both the Iron Bowl and Florida State-Florida on ABC on Saturday. Would it be worth keeping FSU-Florida on Black Friday to separate it from all of the Saturday games though?

I like the idea

It's a good idea in general to schedule choice Rivalry Week games creatively. It's always been a challenge for broadcasters that so many interesting games all happen on the same day.

Black Friday games may be great for ratings, but tough for attending fans.
It's a tough transition to host a family Thanksgiving celebration one day and then the next morning be packed and ready to feed a tailgating crowd.

Oh well, the patron generally gets the short end of the stick. How else would you explain buying a season ticket, only to have to wait until the week before to find out what time the contest is scheduled for?

I would generally agree about the Black Friday games, but in this particular game the 2 schools are close together and it’s not played during a work day, so I think it works out. The only concern for me is the short rest between games, even worst if have FSU had to play a tough opponent the week before.

I liked the UVA VT game on Black Friday because it gave me a chance to go to the game and enjoy all that rivalry weekend has to offer. That game would never be picked to compete with the NFL in the early spot and only 1 or 2 times would be worth putting in a prime time spot.

So..... I hope the FSU Florida game keeps that spot. I loved watching it in that spot and pretty much always is going to be worthy of a prime time match-up even if both teams are un-ranked.

The UNC/NC State game got a 1.8 and 3.1 million.

RE: Florida/Florida State Ratings
Sports Media Watch doesn't give numbers for ACCN games but for the others they show:

FSU averaged a 2.15 over 6 televised games (Florida, LSU, Clemson, WF, Louisville, Miami)
Pitt averaged 2.05 but just on two games with West Va and then Tennessee
Clemson averaged a 1.633 over 8 televised games (SC, NC State, FSU, WF, Syracuse, ND, BC, GT)
NC State averaged 1.358 over 5 televised games (ECU, UNC, Clemson, Texas Tech, Syracuse)
UNC averaged 1.0442 over 5 televised games (ND, NC State, Miami, WF, GT)
Miami averaged a 1 over 4 televised games (TAMU, FSU, UNC, CU)

I think the league needs to consider more Week Zero games and games on Sunday afternoon the two weeks before the NFL opens - especially getting the Labor Day weekend.

The Big Ten talked about Labor Day Sunday as well.

I like that idea. I think people will tune in as long as both teams can avoid flatlining in the same season.

And even if they do, ESPN could bill it as a 'turkey game.'

Syracuse at Clemson pulled nearly 5 million at noon and beat Ohio State head to head.

There are other brands that can draw well when in the Top 25

I think the ACC also needs to move GT/UGA and Louisville/KY to Halloween weekend if you can get the SEC to go for it.

Be sure to consider

1) day/time
2) network
3) other games on at the same time

Not all games are considered equal

Syracuse and Pitt are underrated as television draws. We're seeing the appeal their games have when the teams are up and our media partner lets the SEC obsession go long enough to give them a little promotion—as ESPN is finally getting around to doing this year.

Both UGA and GT will never agree to that, IMO. UGA plays Florida on that week, and its been like that for several years now. GT still likes playing on Thanksgiving Day weekend although playing it on Black Friday might be a better idea. Louisville & UK might though.

Well of course people are going to watch that!! It's a big matchup for soccer and it involves our country's team. It's not like it's Japan vs Iran.

As a lowly 2nd String newbie may you elaborate for me.

I thought UGa plays the game in order to have a 7th or 8th defacto "home" game in Atlanta every other year. It can be that you have to play GT for reputational or recruiting purposes. I thought GT plays the game as the cornerstone of the football ticket donation package and to allow old engineers the chance to see pretty young coeds every other year without having to pay for the girl. Am I missing something?

In those veins, moving the game to a time of the year when the TV audience is more assured seems prudent to me. When you wait until year end you run the risk of one of the schools stinking up the place. Also, Hell would freeze over before I agreed to a Friday football game in Atlanta on the day after Thanksgiving - while not as bad a week night game in Chapel Hill it's not appealing.

But again, I stress that I may be missing something. Perhaps Veterans Day is better or Columbus Day - but some day other than direct competition with Clemson and FSU with SC and Florida.

UGA/GT isn't moving to Halloween period. Go to the know rivalry website, and you will see that UGA claims UF as #1 number one rival, while Tech is #3 at best. You might as well move Texas-Oklahoma to 2nd Saturday in September or Thanksgiving if you want to destroy tradition that bad!!!! Meanwhile, we are Tech's biggest rival and always have been. My reasoning for putting UGA-GT on Black Friday is that it's not on Thanksgiving and it doesn't get overshadowed by games like the Iron Bowl, Michigan-Ohio State etc. I guess we could experiment with the first week in October (UGA plays no one in that slot traditionally) and we could move Tennessee down to Thanksgiving, but I doubt Tech would go for that. As long as the game isn't on Halloween and doesn't conflict with where we play Auburn, I doubt UGA truly cares when it plays Tech, so long as they do play (tradition!!).

Now GT may feel different, and I imagine that UGA does try to accommodate GT somewhat.
