The Canadian immigration system is far superior to ours IMO, and I think most conservatives would prefer it too. It is points based to favor immigrants who fill needed holes in the economy and provide useful skills. I would love to see us discard our family reunification based immigration laws in favor of a points system.

It's quirky and unique to Virginia, but he can't do that. Virginia is the last remaining state that does not allow a governor to succeed him or herself. He could be governor again, but he'd have to sit out at least 1 term and then run again (as Terry McAuliffe tried to do and was defeated by Youngkin).

You can't run for consecutive terms as governor in VA.
Youngkin is a country club republican. I'll always be grateful for him promising to get us out of pandemic participation and following through starting on day 1, but I think he'd probably dive right into swamp and enjoy the DC social circles.
here's your gavel and how it 'hammers' ... we inherited dumbfk-landia long ago ... it's rare when the $$$ don't win ... the following is the latest version of 'Rx=bendoverbiatch'
Quote: It is with great honor that I say God Bless America. Let us all wish this great land a healing from all the unrighteousness that is, that is taking place. My fellow Americans, we’re in danger of a third world war. We as a family of one truth must hear this now. Look at this lie, this deceit, that continues day after day. Can you not all see this lie? We must all wake up, wake up, because if we don’t see this lie, this land will die. Die in its beauty. Its freedom, its opportunity. It’s supposed to be the land of the free; it’s far from this. It’s a dark web, a dark world, but not for long because, my friends, a change is coming, and a new light will emerge. We must all see this truth and allow justice to take place now. You see, the only way we can win these elections is to see the lies, deceit, and corruption from the left and media and the unknowns. Who know who they are.
Let us all come together and to vote for true justice for all. Let us pray that the one President who understood truths and had the best interest of the American people, the American dream, President Donald Trump will return to the presidency. He and only he can stop this swamp, this deceit, and injustice. My fellow Americans wake up, wake up from this bad dream and bring back life, justice, truth, and the only land that is meant for dreams of goodness. The land of the free, America, the greatest land, the great soil for mankind. The land where heroes fought for their truths and this my friends is where we must see the truth. Allow President Trump to rebuild our soil and our land so we can rise to our glory. Much love to you.

Who the hell knows. Lot of time between now & 2024. I think she used to be considered a front-runner. Probably upset people she hasn't been in a long time now.
Also, if a lot of people are turning on Trump, some cult that was.

They pissed and moaned for three election cycles about Obamacare, then when they took control and could do something about it, they had nothing.
Right now they are pissing and moaning about inflation and crime and illegal aliens, but I haven't seen any meaningful solutions offered for any of them.
Health care is simple--Bismarck, copying the best systems in the world, and the closest thing to free market universal care.
Inflation is simple--balance the budget.
Crime is simple--enforce the laws we have on the books, and give law enforcement the resources to do so. On a different tack, reform some of those existing laws, like the drug laws, so we focus on violent criminals instead of petty ones.
Illegal aliens are a bit more difficult--wall or no wall, until we have a comprehensive immigration policy, nothing really works. Heck, give the leftists a thrill and copy Canada's for a start; that's at least more than we have. As for the wall, I'd say build it along California, Arizona, and New Mexico land borders, but in Texas where the Rio Grande is the border, a combination of electronic monitors and increased CBP personnel probably works best.
The country is in a helluva mess, and getting worse. If republicans can come up with workable solutions and shift the focus away from personalities, they can win big in 2024 and thereafter. If they don't, they won't, and maybe never will.
If the GOP ran on what you are proposing I as a self identifying socialist (although I'm really a social democrat) would probably vote for it.

Unless the process is corrected, it may be a moot point, but still, here we goes...
Tom, I hate to tell you but the Estate of Hayes has no say in this. The music licensing behemoths ASCAP and BMI, and their contracts with users are the people that get to approve or nix the use.
Trump many times bought a 'political license' for a broad book of music in the '16 campaign --- only to have artists say and try to do the above. Trump flipped them off, and legally so.
I wasn't really trying to make some big thing of this...I just find it amusing that many of the songs these politicians use for just a song title, etc. actually have lyrics that go against they're supposed beliefs.
Anyway, here's another. I imagine it is possible though that the campaign didn't actually buy the licensing required, right?
If Trump is not stopped we are looking at another 4 years of Democrat control of the WH. Very unlikely he gets as much vote out as last time and with the election rules now giving the opposition an advantage in the urban areas its pretty much a done deal the GOP will lose. It will have to be a candidate that can both get out the vote and draw independents back to conservatism. Trump is not going to do that. Him entering this is a huge problem. Someone is going to have to beat him. The question is who has the balls (and money) to take him on?

This is completely ridiculous.
It is absolutely correct Tom. Canvasing in urban areas already has already been the Democrats forte. Being able to canvas, register and now hand out ballots makes it even more effective. Logistics alone make it much harder to do those things in rural America where the GOP dominates the vote.
I don't think Trump can win, no matter whom the Dems nominate. Too toxic now. Repubs too split.
DeSantis has the best chance to take the nomination from him, but only if most of the rest drop out early.
However, even if DeSantis wins the nomination, it wouldn't surprise me if Trump makes a third party bid, effectively handing the presidency to the Dems, and proving once and for all that he is in it more for himself than for the country.
In 2028, the Repubs should have a good shot, with Trump out of the picture. I don't see anybody on the Dem side who is even a viable candidate right now. Other than if someone wins in 2024 who isn't Biden.

I think the republican party needs to restructure itself. The Karl Rove/neocon strategy of stitching together just enough pieces to get 51% of the vote is failing. They need a new direction.
Here's what I would like. Kiss off the neocon/RINOs and send them back to the democrats from whence they came in the antiwar drug culture 1960s. Become a libertarian/populist/traditional conservative values party. Let democrats have the non-woprking uber-rich establishment and the uber-poor welfare classes. Become the party of the working (blue collar and white collar) middle class.
Outflank the democrats on the social policy side with Bismarck universal private health care and a subsistence level UBI based on Friedman's negative income tax or the Boortz-Linder prebate/prefund (and Bismarck, Friedman, Boortz, and Linder were all conservatives). Friedman's essay on the proper role of government at about pages 36-38 of CAPITALISM AND FREEDOM would be a good framework.

Im beginning to come on board more with the negative income tax paradigm and doing away with the welfare state in favor of the UBI. This combined with a consumption tax would create an economy so hot that people wouldn't know what to do with all the prosperity it brought.

Sure sounds like you're complaining that eligible age voters who were not voting, and therefore not being represented, are now voting so you're upset. Seems to me this is a good thing as our elected officials will now actually be representing their actual citizens and not a few who may have always been there or taken for granted.
But, please be more specific. Where have rules really changed regarding canvassing...whatever that even means to you...let alone with voter registration?
Finally, where is anyone actually "handing out ballots"? If you don't live in one of the like 8 states where they automatically send you one if you're registered because they have all mail-in voting, you only get a ballot if you're registered by a certain deadline (yes many states have had laws for years where you can register on election day) and you submit a verified signature before they mail you one.
I see absolutely ZERO downside to getting more people voting. NONE! In fact, it should be encouraged by everyone.

My concern is it is going to be very difficult to beat him without irreparable damage. He has probably 40% of GOP voters no matter what he does. That 40% needs to vote in the general for anyone to have a path. Not even 5% of them can stay home.
