It's a discussion of who will we sacrifice to Biden / Kamala / Mayor Pete. RE: *** Official 2024 Election Thread *** - bearcatfan - 11-16-2022 10:36 AM If Trump is a candidate, either Republican or independent, he won't be allowed to win despite how many votes he gets - just like the last time. If he goes independent - he'll take votes from a Republican candidate. Trump being a candidate is going to screw things up either way. He needs to go away and let some new blood take over. If that's really what you think, then it makes more sense to sacrifice the already toxic Trump in one last quixotic run for the White House. Allow DeSantis and other rising stars to keep their powder dry for 2028, when events may have rendered the election more winnable for the GOP. RE: *** Official 2024 Election Thread *** - Eagleaidaholic - 11-16-2022 10:57 AM I don't see Desantis running. It will be wide open in 2028. Also, Mail in ballots will start coming in next week. They won't be filled out, just mailed in. They can be filled out once they get where they are going. Eagle I appreciate your eagerness to get started, but give us some more time. Lol we may not finish counting the last election in California until Valentine's Day. At the moment, this appears to be true, and this does need to change and be corrected so we can have fair elections again someday (but not right now, right, Dems/Commies?) Tom, I hate to tell you but the Estate of Hayes has no say in this. The music licensing behemoths ASCAP and BMI, and their contracts with users are the people that get to approve or nix the use. Trump many times bought a 'political license' for a broad book of music in the '16 campaign --- only to have artists say and try to do the above. Trump flipped them off, and legally so. RE: *** Official 2024 Election Thread *** - ECUGrad07 - 11-16-2022 12:45 PM As long as the COVID rules still apply and we have mass mail-in voting, it doesn't matter who runs. The Dems will always win the key states, and they'll allow the Repubs to win just enough to be able to say "Hey, see? You won NC. It isn't rigged. Run better candidates!" One party state, here we come. It's a discussion of who will we sacrifice to Biden / Kamala / Mayor Pete. This is the strategy. Let the Democrats have more time to really drive the country into the ground, and then in 2028 DeSantis will get a mandate. RE: *** Official 2024 Election Thread *** - Gamenole - 11-17-2022 11:08 AM Something for the GOP to consider as you prepare for the 2024 primaries... "The Kinder, Gentler Trumpist November 17, 2022 at 10:29 am EST By Taegan Goddard 30 Comments The Economist: “In the anxious race to develop a Trumpism without Trump, the Republican governor of Virginia, Glenn Youngkin, is at work on a formula that is peculiar, even radical. He wants not just to substitute for the man but to replace the key binding ingredient—anger—with affability.” “Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, has mastered the Trumpian scowl, which the likes of Ted Cruz, a senator from Texas, are doubtless still practising in the bathroom mirror. But the gangly, even goofy Mr Youngkin seems incapable of being less than ebullient, even at eight o’clock on a recent morning as he bundled his six-foot-seven-inch frame into the back seat of a Chevrolet Suburban, and began joyfully recounting tales of the six years he lived in London.” https://politicalwire.com/2022/11/17/the-kinder-gentler-trumpist/ DeSantis is the flavor of the moment, but I don't think anyone finds him charismatic or even especially likeable. Americans are shallow and ill-informed, and the perennial question of "Which candidate would you rather have a beer with?" determines far more votes than it should. I certainly would not vote for Governor Youngkin in a general election, but it is very difficult to watch the man speak and not find him likeable. RE: *** Official 2024 Election Thread *** - Owl 69/70/75 - 11-17-2022 11:36 AM Republicans need to quit worrying so much about personalities, and start focusing on policies. They pissed and moaned for three election cycles about Obamacare, then when they took control and could do something about it, they had nothing. Right now they are pissing and moaning about inflation and crime and illegal aliens, but I haven't seen any meaningful solutions offered for any of them. Health care is simple--Bismarck, copying the best systems in the world, and the closest thing to free market universal care. Inflation is simple--balance the budget. Crime is simple--enforce the laws we have on the books, and give law enforcement the resources to do so. On a different tack, reform some of those existing laws, like the drug laws, so we focus on violent criminals instead of petty ones. Illegal aliens are a bit more difficult--wall or no wall, until we have a comprehensive immigration policy, nothing really works. Heck, give the leftists a thrill and copy Canada's for a start; that's at least more than we have. As for the wall, I'd say build it along California, Arizona, and New Mexico land borders, but in Texas where the Rio Grande is the border, a combination of electronic monitors and increased CBP personnel probably works best. The country is in a helluva mess, and getting worse. If republicans can come up with workable solutions and shift the focus away from personalities, they can win big in 2024 and thereafter. If they don't, they won't, and maybe never will. RE: *** Official 2024 Election Thread *** - Bronco'14 - 11-17-2022 12:10 PM A lot of unknowns about Youngkin still. If he can win VA in re-election like DeSantis did FL, I think then it's a no-brainer. For now I like him doing good things in VA. & I don't think he runs for 2024. Story behind that song is that Isaac Hayes was in the restroom peeing and the musicians were about to get started and Isaac yelled, "Hold on, I'm coming". As for the election I do not believe there will be another free and honest election. |
