RE: Countries that permit Vote By Mail
The USPS is the least of my concerns. It is one person, one vote, one vote that they chose, that concerns me the most.

I am a firm believer that you need to make voting as accessible to everyone WHO WANTS to vote but the ways people are going about this right now is so unsecure.

Identification can be faked so easily when not face to face. Dropping other peoples mail in the mailbox cannot be possibly monitored properly which opens the door to your ballot being filled out for you - which cannot possibly be proven - period!

With very few exceptions voting should be done in person at at certified voting station, but the time to actually cast that vote in that manner needs to be long enough to allow anyone and everyone a reasonable opportunity - if THEY WANT to vote.

I have absolutely zero faith in the fact that every vote cast and counted right now is legitimate and/or was the actual intention of every single voter. And while my feelings about that cannot be proven, anyone who disagrees simply cannot disprove it either.

That really makes no sense.

How?

Is your vote cast in private at your polling place? Are there even little blinders on the side of your voting machine?

Are candidates and volunteers prohibited from being a certain distance from the polling place?

Those small, but intentional ways in which voting is envisioned to be performed without influence and done anonymously.

Are you of the impression that someone or a bunch of folks see your votes when you vote by mail? They don't. Your ballot doesn't have your name on it and it's kept in another envelope so it's hidden, and it gets separated from the envelope you mailed it in with that has your signature.

And have you even voted before?

Yes, every polling location I've ever seen has a private booth to vote in.

And yes, you can't campaign within 100 feet of the entrance to a polling place. Now, anyone can enter a polling place in most states and observe, but they aren't allowed near the voting "booths".

What I'm referring to is grassroots groups reaching out to voters and "helping" them with their ballots either by door to door canvassing or through organized "voter information" meetings where people can even bring their ballot to the meeting where questions can be answered.

Those sorts of practices are prime areas for mass voting inducement situations where people can possibly be led to vote a certain way or enticed to do so.

If you can't bother to find out what's going on, perhaps you should not even vote? Go sign up to work an election in your area and find out. Contact your local clerk and find out. Do some research and find out.

Lack of voter confidence in the process is mostly the result of ignorance and lies.

And again, we thankfully still live in a democracy. The majority wants mail-in voting.

There's very basic reasons why Arizona is still counting votes. And pretty sure almost every state is still counting votes to some extent. There's myriad reasons why it takes this long. None of the reasons mean anything is fraudulent. That's just a lazy take.

The 5 great English speaking democracies all permit some version of voting by mail - the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. We're right where we should be with our peer nations in the group that invented modern representative democracy.

We have way more problems in area where we are the outlier amongst this group - as with lax firearms laws that perpetuate our gun violence epidemic, and our lack of universal healthcare.

New Zealand? One of the 5 great democracies?

Pretty sure every state issues sample ballots before election day. You can get one regardless and talk to anyone you want about how to vote. You can take it and research anything you want on candidates and issues.

I'm not aware of any forced situations where voters are made to vote for someone. 01-wingedeagle

And FWIW, I know of one meeting that took place in my area here in Michigan before the election where voters were told about the abortion proposal this year. And I can guarantee you from knowing the organizer that nearly everything they were told was a complete misrepresentation.

Who is saying forced?

I'm saying "Citizens to Produce a Better City" holds a "know your candidate" event where "someone" will talk about the upcoming ballot and provide "information" about the candidates.

At that event, food is provided, and someone is more than willing to talk about what the pros and cons are of each candidate. If you have your ballot and maybe need a little guidance, someone is there to help. Of course, too, I would imagine the group holding the event is 100% non-partisan and no one would be there to promote a particular party or push a distinct bloc of candidates.

Well CommieTom. FWIW I know of one incident of vote harvesting. It happened at my doorstep when some idiot, progressive socialist came up to my house to harvest votes from the elderly Spanish couple that used to live in my humble abode previously.

Vote Harvesting is the problem little buddy.

Ive made my stance on allowing for ALL kinds of early voting and even moving the election day to Saturday so don't even try to put words in my mouth Tom. You know where I stand.

So what? The voter still is going there voluntarily. Additionally, I believe it's against the law (in most every state) to actually have someone else sit there and go through your actual ballot and tell you who to mark your vote for.

RWT, are you just easily confused or just being obtuse?

I don’t think many people have an issue with vote by mail provided that it could be assured that:

1. The ballot is sent to and received by the voter it was intended to reach.
2. The ballot is filled out, without influence or duress, by only the voter that received it.
3. The ballot is mailed back or dropped off only by the person who completed it.

If you believe that the above is what’s happening then you are being foolish or willfully ignorant.

Your need to know the result now is meaningless! I don't believe any state has certified their results yet. This takes time to get it right. There's a reason why states don't certify their results as official for like 2-3 weeks after the election. I just can't fathom how you cannot understand this.

No state has officially called any of their races as done as far as I know. The media does this based on up to date results using projection models, NOT THE STATE! So what do you do if the results are only different by a few votes? You want them to just pick a winner because it's still in question 6 days later and YOU think that is ridiculous and YOU need to know? 01-wingedeagle

We didn't have much mail in voting in 2020, but did we know the Presidential result 6 days after the election? No.

So not everyone should vote? Interesting. So why do u socialists register people to vote at the DMV and then mail them ballots.. then pick the ballots up. Doesn’t this seem like a contradiction to you? 07-coffee3

Yes, in probably 99.99% of the cases, that's EXACTLY what's happening. In the other cases, someone is committing a crime. In what fantasy world do you live in where you think any rule or regulation is followed 100% of the time?

And just to correct you, in most every state, a family member is allowed to drop off or mail a ballot for a family member residing in the house.

2. The ballot is filled out, without influence or duress, by only the voter that received it.
3. The ballot is mailed back or dropped off only by the person who completed it.

If you believe that the above is what’s happening then you are being foolish or willfully ignorant.

Tom would be fine with people just thinking about who they vote for and not even have to leave the comfort of their beds. Democrats are the laziest people on earth when it comes to their civic duty.07-coffee3

WTF does any of this have to do with a democrat?

"What in the Hell is going on?" That alone is reason to ditch it. Without voter confidence in the election process the election results are ALWAYS going to be questioned. We can do this where everyone has plenty of opportunity to vote without this nonsense.

The MAJORITY has wanted a lot of fcking things Tom. That does not make them GOOD things. Having a damn election still in question a fcking week later due to mail in balloting is a BAD way to run an election...PERIOD.07-coffee3

Your need to know the result now is meaningless! I don't believe any state has certified their results yet. This takes time to get it right.

No.

We had Covid problems Tom..and YOU know that. Stop being obtuse.07-coffee3

WTF does anything you or I just said here have to do with Covid?

So not everyone should vote? Interesting. So why do u socialists register people to vote at the DMV and then mail them ballots.. then pick the ballots up. Doesn’t this seem like a contradiction to you? 07-coffee3

Where is anyone picking up ballots?

We decided the election in 6 days during a pandemic. The complications of Covid caused the delay and was understandable. Mail-in balloting alone caused the delay this time.
