It might vary from state to state, but I wonder if a kid takes a payment to visit, does that jeopardize their amateur status in that state?

How is it different than receiving NIL money?

NIL is technically supposed to be attached to endorsements. Hard to see where a visit would have time for endorsing a company.

Don't know. I don't know if HS kids are already getting NIL money locally.

Will NIL contracts include morality clauses?

Would love to read an actual contract. Is it an annual deal? subject to renegotiation based on performance?

But its not "really" attached to endorsements in most cases is it? Seems in most cases its just a way to give cover to boosters to pay these players. I could see where a booster group pays a recruit $5k to simply tweet that he's visiting the school and thanking the group.

Interesting that he's going to the school his Dads team is famous for beating. I wonder how much they're paying him? I wonder how much we're paying our recruits too.

I think in most cases, in the big sports, its just semantics. It is 99% the same thing.

It is attached to endorsements in practically all cases. Flimsy endorsements that they know won’t be worth the cost in some aspects but they have to show up for an event or tweet about a product to show it’s legitimate or they risk a lot of issues for the programs, players and collective.

Yeah, I don't know the specific contracts, but I know its happening by some means. Heck, even some high schoolers are getting NIL deals now (maybe in certain states).

But, I imagine there is some way that they are getting the money under the current rules.

I think we agree then. I know on paper its technically for an endorsement, but its often times basically for doing nothing other than a tweet that takes 10 seconds or something similar. For non revenue sports I could see it being legit. It would be good if schools had 2 paths for athletes to take. The scholarship/COA route, and the NIL route. If a kid thinks he'll make more via NIL, go that route and pay your own tuition. For the regular athletes, take the free ride for four years and all the benefits of that.

ODU need to be looking everywhere for a QB. Every game this year the QB play has killed us! Imagine we had a QB. This team would be dangerous!

I'm not sure how a quarterback is going to help us on the court though?

Drew Williamson was a pretty good quarterback.

And Frank Smith as well.
