RE: FB Game Eight - Rhody
Interesting past 2 games for Rhody, a 17-10 defensive slugfest win over Elon, then a 48-46 7 OT win over Monmouth (tied 35 all at the end of regulation). They've been a streaky team this season, but we definitely can't underestimate them.

Caught the tail end of the Rhody game while waiting for ours to start/broadcast this weekend. We should certainly be favored but the Rams aren't going to be a pushover. Hope we come out the same way in the first half this weekend.

Put two halves together and we should be fine. Let them hang around and they're definitely good enough to burn us. 1pm kick time is not ideal for turnout but I hope students and locals show up for this one, it's a huge game.

We need this one. These guys are good enough to win. Be focused, play hard, hold on to the ball and don’t let up.

GO TRIBE!

Bill Connelly has us as 10 point favorites this weekend. His model likes Rhody's offense a lot more than their defense, similar to us. Saturday may be a bit of a shootout.

Rhody is middle of the pack in every statistical category. Going to come down to turnovers and penalties, I suspect.

This is definitely the biggest CAA game this week. I guess Delaware at Elon is the 2nd biggest.

Hopefully, the Tribe can play well from the start and not let off the gas until the game is over. The Rams are capable of pulling the upset on the road. I'd rather see the Rams do that when they go to New Hampshire in November.

Rhody is another team that rebuilt through the transfer portal. 24 transfers to include several from Rutgers. I know our coaches are digging through their UD game film to see how the chickens doubled URI up in nearly every statistical category. We should win by 14-17 if we play disciplined ball.

I would be really happy to win by 14-17!

Absolutely. But we have been really lacking on discipline this season (and past seasons tbh). I love that our guys play with an edge and I love that London is the kind of coach that encourages players rather than punishing them. But we have got to find a balance. I don't want one of those 15 yard penalties to end up hurting us in a big game this year. This team is too talented to go out like that.

RE: FB Game Eight - Rhody
Here's the FloSports Preview of our game, from their site:

Rhode Island Vs. William & Mary
Oct 29, 1:00 PM EDT
2022 Rhode Island vs William & Mary

The Tribe have been spectacular all year, matching last season’s win total already at 6-1 thus far and featuring one of the top rushing offenses in the country at an eye-popping 253.7 ground yards per game, good for the fourth-best mark in America. It’s seen their stock grow up in the eyes of the national pollsters, as well, as W&M was placed in the top 10 of the FCS Top 25 rankings — and earned the distinction as the CAA’s current highest-ranked team — following its cut-and-dry 44-24 win over Towson on the weekend.

With the exception of a four-point loss to Elon last month, the Tribe have won and looked strong against each team they’ve played so far. But the visit from No. 18 Rhody this weekend will show whether or not W&M is ready for the pressure associated with being one of the nation’s best teams — and if it can keep cool as both schools are currently chasing CAA leader New Hampshire for a regular-season conference crown.

The Tribe ran wild for 300 rushing yards on the Tigers, while the Rams are coming off of the back of a marathon game against Monmouth last weekend that went seven overtimes in the longest game between two FCS teams in college football history.

URI gave up 266 yards on the ground to the Hawks in that game — some of that added on following the end of regulation — but did just enough to get past the Monmouth’s CAA-leading offense (480.5 total yards per game) as quarterback Kasim Hill and Marques DeShields combined for five touchdowns between them.

Expect a battle in the trenches as a 19-sack Rhody defense goes up against a Tribe O-line that’s only given up five sacks all year, and watch out for W&M coach Mike London’s penchant for the trick play, like the fake field goal he called that turned into a score against Towson.

We have to be rooting for Elon in that game, right?

Nolan Henderson got hurt against us, and he also was hurt again by a Morgan State player last week, so who knows how healthy he is, but a Delaware loss makes it a 2, maybe 3 horse race in the CAA, if you include Richmond.

Richmond has a way of being included, without our permission!

RE: FB Game Eight - Rhody
To me, this game will put a spotlight on our defense. While I believe we are showing improvement each week, the team and/or defense has shown the habit of bending late with decent leads: Elon, Delaware and Towson. I don’t think they can afford that with URI.

I’m sensing this may be a game more like Stony Brook where we fell behind early but took control in the 2H. URI though has a very capable offense. We can’t give too much early ground.

We need to be focused throughout on this one.

I didn't realize how stout URI's DL is - 19 sacks and only 3.9 yards per rush attempt. Will be a big test of our OL

Let's not get carried away with that praise yet. They do have a couple good DL but they had 10 sacks against Brown. 4 against Monmouth. Only 5 additional sacks in their other 5 games. And close to 50 more rushing yards per conference game than the Tribe D. However, that includes probably some extra yards (and sacks) against Monmouth in their extended game.

Monmouth rushed for 12 yards in overtime and 225 in regulation and there were no sacks in OT.
