99 yard drive! I thought this defense was supposed to be good. Lucky we’re not in OT right now.

Well I’m glad to get a w vs a solid team, but man that was a lot more exciting than it needed to be.
Despite the turnovers and senseless penalties the Tribe prevailed.

One thing for sure, if the Hampton coaches watch ANY tape, we will see that "tight end block down and release into the open area" play next week, as we STILL haven't covered it. For all I know, #82 is still running wide open out there, somewhere.

I DO love our stable of running backs.

7-1 does sound good.

I didn’t want to mention before but we have (still) never lost to URI at Zable, now 9-0.

It’s a big win over #17 ranked team. I kept trying to find signs of weakness of URI from their other games. Tough to find. Only losses were Delaware and Pitt.

Survive and advance.

RE: FB Game Eight - Rhody
Felt like we were the better team today, bad turnover luck and a couple big plays kept URI in the game. IMO, going away from north-south running plays stopped us more often than URI's defense did. We were stuffed once inside the 5 and went gimmick instead of making them show they could do it more than once. The INT was a good play by URI and a little underthrown by Darius. There was room to complete that pass, he just thought there was more room than there was. I was impressed by URI's OL, they kept their QB clean for most of the game.

That pick from Jones was a great play on the ball. He's showing that his 3 INT game was not a fluke.

That's true -- IF we had executed the gameplan and IF we had avoided dumb turnoverS/penalties then we would have won going away. The Tribe was clearly the better team on the field....but better teams don't try to give the game away with FOUR turnovers. I was getting deja vue from the Elon game.

But as everyone said, a win is a win is a win! Kudos to the defense for stopping that 2-point try -- that was a great play by Jones.

Poole being kicked out of the game could have cost us that game. Covering for his replacement(s) might have been why the Tribe was only rushing three at the end (weren't we rushing four earlier in the game?). Either way, rushing four on that last drive might have prevented their QB from making all those first down throws. At least Poole's infraction was in the first half so that he will be able to play the whole game against Hampton. Also, to be fair, the replay in the stadium wasn't in focus enough to be sure if it even was targeting (although the ref emphasized that the call was "confirmed"). It probably didn't help Poole's cause that he stood over the guy.

Now, on to Hampton. No more banana peels in these last 3 games.

Good finish on the two-pt conversion attempt. Lots of dumb mistakes by us across the board. Game could easily have been us winning by 2+ TDs. Glad to get the win. Win next week and I think we're a lock for the playoffs.

I thought we were clearly the better team too. The back to back turnovers from scrimmage in the 3rd were a killer but we managed to overcome it.

Separately, we have to get better in end of half situations. Stand the opponent up, try to strip the ball, pile on, run some clock. Too many plays we're popping immediately up and sprinting to the line like we're the ones who are trying to hurry up.

We'd also like to thank Monmouth for taking URI to 7 OT's last week, thus putting 4 two point conversion plays on tape for our coaches to study.

Sorta came in handy.

It makes sense that they went for the win instead of yet another potential marathon OT session.

Come on billymac -- you're a W&M grad.....since only the first two overtimes are "normal" and since it went to 7 overtimes.....that means they ran 5 2-point conversion plays. I think I did hear Mike London say "4" in the postgame show....but he is not a W&M grad (he is a UR Spider).

Also, many people are talking about the "longest" FCS overtime game, etc. It might be longest in terms of overtimes but probably not in terms of time and definitely not in terms of number of plays. There were only 10 total plays by both teams in the last five overtimes. In previous years, each overtime could have had eight or more plays...depending on how effective each team was in making first downs or scoring. In other words, I don't think 7 overtimes this year would have tired the team out as much as it would have in previous years. If it did it was probably more from stress than from on-field exertion. Maybe the URI coach went for 2 not because he wanted to avoid the extra play but rather maybe because his team had already had so much extra practice at it lately.

Maybe also because he didn't feel confident in his kicker who had made all the extras but missed a couple field goals. I have not stayed current on college OT rules, but if FG entered into it we were in better shape.
