Newton looked pretty banged up on that long TD. Did he sit out or play after that?

As the season marches on and the games become more important & other programs get better, you can count on the rockets to wilt. And this isn’t even gonna qualify as our annual “lay an egg” game, because Kent State is clearly better team. No, our “lay an egg” game is still one to be anticipated.
I suggest the egg event happened in San Diego

On O, still missing Long, and today were without Blankumsee, so that's 7.
Also Torres didn't play, nor Givhan, I think. Woliver only played a couple snaps. Stuart got rolled up on early in the game and didn't return as a RB, but did return some kicks after that I think.
Blankumsee, that's right! Didn't hear his name. Well, it seems like the backups are about as good, if not better, than some of the starters were. Was impressed with Barkley's performance. I give the coaches credit for making the adjustments needed for the comeback.
Big challenge next week. Buffalo and Toledo both 3-0 in conference.

I noticed that Landers had 8 catches for 99 yards and 3 TDS for Arkansas yesterday…. Imagine what this offense would look like if we still had him….. Or what could have been if we actually used him last year before we were out of the MAC race!

DQ has improved so much not only from last year but as well as from the beginning of the year.
Buffalo will be a tuff test next week.

A lot of what ifs !!
What if M.Landers and I. Winstead had stayed with the program..
What if B. Koback stayed for his final season..
What if our O-line had no injuries ..
I guarantee Toledo would have made it more respectable in C-bus, and SDSU would more than likely been a win !!
At 5-1 the Rockets would maybe be ranked, with all of our 5 wins being more lopsided and possibly a closer spread against o$u…

Wow,Kent really put 21 on us in under 5 minutes? NIU puts up 25 in not much more than that. Almost 50 pts in two consecutive quarters. That needs fixin. :D

OK negative Nellie...... We're 3-0 in the conference and likely to go to the Championship game if the play continues as its been. Does your dislike for the Candel color your thoughts to the point you can't appreciate an outstanding effort by the Rockets? Or would you be more appreciative if Candel only made 500 K?
Could you be positive for once?

I concur. The Defense needs to be more stingy. Too many arm tackles, better job setting the edge, etc. Rockets have played worse Defense in prior years. Coaches and players
did a nice job of righting the ship.

Eh hem, I predicted a toledo win and wasn't that far off on the score. Where were you before game? Get glasses before commenting magoo..
We are 3-0 against teams with a combined record of 6-15 in the worse FBS conference. Over two quarters the vaunted defense gave up nearly 50 points against that competition.
Toledo provides the best resources and the best salary in the MAC to a football coach. Dont you presume those coaches are discussing that failure? If them, then why not the fans?
If someone is going to promote only the good against that competition, there's nothing "negative" about balancing the act and pointing out the things that should not have happened.

Our defense also went flat in the 4Th Q a few weeks ago, we lost. I’m not meaning to knock them. They have playing well. But what is going on when this stuff happens? Is it coaching or, are they just not paying attention to what is going on.

RE: Toledo vs Kent Thread
2 things
we came out flat
and kent is good. they play very fast. and they start out every year with 2 or 3 of the best teams in the country so they are ready to compete with talented players.
when you play kent. be ready. fortunately, Kent doesn't have great depth or overall talent, and over a 60 minute game a team like toledo with talented backups might gain an advantage down the stretch.
georgia came out flat against kent and needed a couple of breaks and a long hot September afternoon to beat kent less convincingly than we did.
I'm not a big Candle guy, and I think the reality is this program has 4 main coaches with a lot of responsibility-Candle, Weiner, Kulogowski, Kehres-and a handful more with a key role. I'm more of an evaluate the staff kind of fan. Candle's fires and hires on defense were very effective. Maybe, the pressure to not retain coaches came from elsewhere, but I put all of that on Candle more than anyone else. It has worked out well, generally.
I'm not thrilled with the offense this year, but the oline has improved and gotten healthier. we are still playing with a makeshift center and rogers has done an admirable job with his blocking, but his snaps are doodoo. horrible. finn has to make a great play every other snap just to start the offense. basically, our offense is evolving around designed qb runs, better rb play and run blocking, and the deep finn-the play where a couple guys go deep and Finn dances around rushers until he finds the one who is more open and throws a 50-50 ball in a place his guy can make a play. it works a lot. it's like we don't have an offense but our offense is really fun.

I think one thread:
"Does the team get your blood pumping"
needed to make both the yes-men and the analytic -synthesizers happy. Because they definitely get your blood pumping.

RE: Toledo vs Kent Thread
Hadn't noticed when watching the game, but from the replay, neither Dumont nor Ateman were dressed for Kent - the OL is really thin. Torres also was not dressed, nor Butler. Saw who I think was Terrance Taylor on the sideline with his arm/shoulder in a harness. Another player was using a scooter to protect his leg, and I think that was Clay Caudill, who I have been wondering about, as I don't think he has seen the field at all in his career to date. Hook was on the sideline too, not dressed but had a lot of energy which was a good sign.
Injuries happen every year, but this year just seems unusually bad.
