UAB is last in C-USA in passing offense and but Hopkins has moved up to 2nd to last in QB stats. He is still last in passing TD's though with 6 on the season.
Heading into the AAC we really need to upgrade our talent level at QB. We need a McBride level talent there (a contender for all-conference honors).
Not sure I'd entirely put that on Hopkins though. Your stats will be low when you're only getting a measly 22.7 attempts a game. His completion rating, yards per attempt, etc are quite decent...of course the inverse of that applies if defenses are mostly trying to stop the run.

I think a lot of fans judge Hopkins against the standard of QB that would be excellent running the offensive system they WANT us to be playing. If you start with the assumption that our offense & defense systems suck then, yeah, all our players are going to suck.

What has Hopkins shown you this year to make him so awesome in your eyes? He’s an average to slightly above average QB. Look at the stats. Take off the green and gold glasses. Stop looking at just the BYU game. How many games has he been a true difference maker? Not many.
I haven’t said anything else about our other players. I’m not trash talking Hopkins, I just think he gets hyped up to be a lot more than what he really is, much like how our team in general is overly hyped up by almost everyone on here every year.
I’ve heard two years in a row how this is the best or the deepest UAB football team ever. And here we are at 4-2 with as usual - bad, embarrassing, self-inflicted losses, and a struggling win against one of the worst teams in D1. And we are staring down the barrel of an extremely tough closing schedule. Every game on the schedule for the rest of the year is basically a toss up at best in my eyes.
I hope they go out there and prove me wrong, but I haven’t seen anything from Vincent or Hopkins to think we end up with more than 7, maybe 8, wins.

I haven’t asserted anything about Hopkins or Vincent (or anyone else). I’ve simply responded - and not very many times (I try to avoid posting if I can for reasons) - to those who banged the gavel before the season even started and are still swinging it but it’s worn to a nub.

From the latest 1819.com article about the upcoming WKU game, in regards to Hopkins, "the quarterback does a great job managing the game."
This kind of echoes my point. He is a game manager. He rarely stands out, or wins us a game, or does anything spectacular. He is average to just above average. To listen to people on here, on facebook, or coach Vincent, he is the next coming of Brett Favre. I feel like Vincent gave all of the announcers for our games talking points about his "otherworldly accuracy," because all they do is talk about it. Kind of like all they do is talk about the return and shutting the program down in 2014. All I've seen all season are short, or long, or inaccurate throws. He hasn't been terrible, but he hasn't been great either.
