Raised the thought with my wife about trying to drive the 1.5 hours (one way) to Jonesboro for the game, and then drive back to Memphis where we have our hotel reservations. Given the potential “celebrating” at the reception decided instead to stay in Memphis and watch the game on the NFL network.

So close, and yet so far.

That's so disappointing when you're that close.

It really is. 03-weeping

You may have to turn in your fan card. If you are already in Memphis, Get an Uber or find an Alumnus in Memphis who is going and can drive. There has to be at least one in the area. 1 hour away seems like something could be done.

Of course you will be 1 of about 200 JMU fans there.

Sadly (for game plans) the wedding is scheduled to start at 5, with the reception to follow. I had been under the misconception the wedding was going to start earlier, like 2pm.

There was a commercial on a few years ago, do not remember for what where a whole bunch of guys at a wedding including the groom were in a side room watching a football game when the bride and her entourage walk in on them. The guys all look like the world was about to end when the bride says: Hey the games on who's winning? You need to get a situation like that setup tonight!!

Hope you will be able to sneak a peek occasionally!!

My wife and I had the live game stats running on an iphone at our table. Not ideal, but the results kept us from going nuts. Except when the Dukes would stall, and we anticipated that a FG attempt was going to be made!
Hope a replay of the game becomes available.

The wedding was fantastic! Next to last of the nieces and nephews to get married. The last remaining “child” is 36 and living in Cali and is having too much fun to ever get married, so maybe I’m off the hook (at least for awhile).

The open bar at the reception offered one kind of drink for the groom (whiskey), and one for the bride (tequila). Obviously, our family drank the brides choice.

Interestingly, yesterday’s rehearsal dinner was setup as a tailgate deal (but indoors with tables). One end of the room had a huge projector screen and they streamed the Memphis-Houston game. Apparently, the bride and groom met at a Memphis tailgate, and the entire groom’s family are fanatical Memphis supporters. I smiled and kept my mouth closed! 03-lmfao

Watching the slow updates on the live track stats on the JMU was hard, especially with JMU’s FG situation!

For the handful that went to Jonesboro, was it the smallest JMU away crowd as expected?

Maybe 8 years from now when JMU has a return trip it will be a better program and incent more fans to travel to Memphis for a weekend. The stadium seemed to be listless on TV and I don’t know how they claim 20,083 attendance for their homecoming.
Perhaps they gave 10,000 tickets to schools and only 5% showed up along with the 10,000 that were actually there.

It had all the look and feel of a FCS away game in a remote part of the country.

There were roughly 50-100 JMU fans. Not many, but its still much higher than we normally see for games here. SBC West fan bases do not travel outside of Troy and ULL when they are good.

ULM brought maybe 15 people last week, and they are 4 hours down the road.

If they are such fanatics then how on earth can they have a fall wedding in the middle of football season! Makes no sense! Now they'll be dealing with wedding anniversaries in the middle of football season for the rest of their lives! Got to think these things through!

My older daughter had her wedding on Oct 19 2014 a couple of years after she graduated from JMU where she was a 4 year MRD. Fortunately for her the wedding day was a bye week so there was no blowback from me at least!! Great planning on her part (although somewhat lucky in reality)

Go Dukes!!

Yep the ticket block for visiting fans was in the upper deck corner of he visitors side. By halftime we had all moved down to the lower level corner. There were many more of players families than fans. Stadium is nice with plenty of parking, and its not a bad trip from Memphis. Game was competitive into the 4th probably the hardest test we have had so far outside of App St.

I think because the bride and groom first met at a Memphis tailgate having their anniversary during football season will simply reinforce/enhance their celebration plans. But I fully understand where you’re coming from!

On the drive back we stopped just outside Nashville to get a bite to eat, and I was wearing a JMU shirt (one with just the Duke Dog head), and an older guy asked me if I had gone to the game. 03-banghead

Obviously, he recognized the Duke Dog logo, and I was impressed he knew about the game. Turns out he had been at the game! His son-in-law was a JMU alum, and other members of his family are Ark St. alums. The older guy said he had “no dog in the fight” but already knew JMU was #28 in the coaches poll.

If a random…completely random chat…in the freaking middle of nowhere can generate this kind of awareness of JMU football the program is on the verge of some very big days!

Go Dukes!
