The more JMU says they're going to win, the better I feel.

Ain’t that the truth. Might go hammer app -7. Might even tease it to -10.

RE: GAME THREAD: JMU at App State - 9/24 3:30 PM EST - ESPN+
Going back to 2007 when App State was winning the FCS national championships I felt we could hang with the big boys in college football. I felt that we could indeed beat Michigan - and we did.

JMU has that kind of program/team. The very top of the FCS can play against the best of the FBS (P5 or G5 doesn't matter, because frankly the top of the G5 can complete well against the P5).

That said, JMU is a good G5 team (maybe very very good). Like App State, JMU isn't a push over in any game, and I expect them to play like it.

This will be a very close game, and JMU is ready for the challenge. I still think it is two teams with similar DNA getting after it. I think App State being at home, and after a scare from Troy, will get the narrowest of wins on Saturday. JMU will prove to be a very good add for the SBC.

Well it was about that time that I noticed this App State fan was about 8 stories tall and was a crustacean from the Paleozoic era!

JMU has all the advantages. Well-rested and plenty of time to prepare for App. App State is probably a little mentally and definitely physically drained and is battling some injuries in key positions. Anything other than a close game for JMU would be very concerning if I was a fan.

But do crustaceans run the air raid? If not, App will win every time. You'll see that App's defense tends to dominate teams that do not run an Air Raid and get smoked up and down the field by teams that do. If JMU runs the ball more than 20 times, they lose. If they run for more than 50 yards, they lose as well. App will have the random game where a team with a conventional offense beats them up (Louisiana 2021, Georgia Southern 2019), but this ain't that game.

JMU expects to win, right? But all of this self-assurance is coming primarily coming from MTSU and Norfolk State wins. A bye would mean more if App had returned Frank Ponce as OC and JMU had more time to Game Plan but there have been new wrinkles in every game thus far for App's offense.

It will be interesting to see which team shows up, that's for sure. Most likely this will be JMU's strongest test until Marshall and both of those will be stronger than Louisville.

APP STATE is a good team that should have beat UNC. The game against Troy, I saw coming, mainly because of the huge win at ATM and then having College Game Day on campus. This week is different. As a ex player, I know the coaching staff has told the team,

"See, heads in the clouds and you almost got beat, Treat every game as ATM"

JMU is very good FCS school who has done very well but they are a year or 2 away from going on the road and beating who I think is # 1 or 2 team in the Sunbelt.

I also watched the tape against Norfolk State, JMU's O line was being push back too many times, D line was keep in check when contacted properly. Norfolk had too many mistakes, miss blocks, blown assignments, players out of position, and poor tackling. if you do not believe me, go watch the game and slow it down on every play, Tape don't lie!

APP is going to come out at home and hit JMU in the mouth, out the gate. How JMU response will be huge. I do not see a blow out, But I have .....

APP STATE - 38

JMU - 17

I'm really glad this game is at home and the App team can gain a little rest from not having to travel. JMU has had a nice break and 2 weeks to prepare and they will be well rested and ready to play. I'm a little concerned about the App secondary and the fact that JMU has a pretty mobile QB, who can expose lack of containment like UNC-Cheat and Texas A&M. I'm exhausted myself just from attending the games; I'm sure the App team is a little mentally winded as well. This will be a good measuring stick for both teams. Go App!

It will be very interesting to see how we approach this game on offense, especially the start of the game. Cignetti is the type of coach who promised leading the conference in rushing in his introductory press conference when Elon hired him and did the same when JMU hired him.

We threw the ball a lot more than he liked last year with RB/OL injuries and a young OL but now we're healthy and more experienced there and we're #9 in FBS rushing yards per game. We'll absolutely run the ball more than 20 times and for more than 50 yards, but Cig is also very very high on Kris Thornton as he should be and JMU will be very willing to feed him as much as the defense allows. If you guys have some concerns about your secondary then your D line better not give Thornton any time at all to get behind them.

I believe this will be our toughest game this year and I expect a close loss. Nothing would be a huge surprise to me though except for a blowout win or a loss by more than 21 or so. As far as our approach on offense, I expect a pretty balanced or slightly run heavy attack. I wouldn't be surprised if we try to strike big early to Thornton though.

RE: GAME THREAD: JMU at App State - 9/24 3:30 PM EST - ESPN+
My prediction:

app wins in the 4th quarter because of a little more FBS talent and home field. But the game is way more competitive than a lot think it will be.

App State 34
JMU 24

Seems to me a whole lot of people on here are very interested in this game and are actually HOPING App State wins rather easily. Because they are fearful of what a close game, or <gasp> a JMU win means. Especially CoastalAlum2011, who is downright shitting his pants in fear with JMU in the Sun Belt.

We won't win Saturday, and that's ok. App is a great program and deserves and has EARNED it's place. But we'll win more than we lose this year. And as Hart said earlier. Get your licks in now, if you even can now, because in 2-3 years, App will have company at the top.

Hhhhmmmm………

Regional Interest - check
Historically good programs - check
Good fanbases - check

It’s almost like the Sun Belt was set up to create games like this. Like it was intentional.

Definitely the most intriguing so far. Troy/App was a surprise. But stick around, lots more Fun Belt action.

You can laugh all you want but at the end of the day, APP STATE coaches are watching the same film. You guys for almost the entire 1st half had 7-8 guys within 7 yards of the line scrimmage. Good Luck with that against APP STATE WRs and TEs.

JMU is going to face a better QB, WR, O line and RBs that will test their team speed and depth. I can see it now, JMU first Defensive snap they come out in a cover 2, WSS on the elbow, short side of the field. You heard it here first. They are going to protect against the pass and hope they front 6 can stop the pistol set. When they can't and those Safeties come up, RPO time.

Also JMU QB would have thrown 2 picks in the first quarter, if there were good corners out there. I mean the entire game he had plenty of time to throw the ball. That will not be the case against APP STATE. He will be pressured and he will throw a pick, I bet on that. For example

1. 2nd drive @ the 840 mark, he throws a poorly thrown ball that the corner took a terrible angle.

2. 3rd drive @ the 722 mark, he throws another terrible ball that the corner should have jump the route, but instead the corner stood there and waited for the ball to come to him. We teach corners to attack the ball in the air not wait on it.

Once again go back and look at the tape.

I believe JMU is good enough to make it a good game but they will lose in the end by 2 scores.

Does T-Dog still post on here? I miss that guy, I haven't seen him since he came to Liberty @JMU and we lost.

Any advice for my first return trip to Boone since 2007? I think we're joining people in Lot 140 on West King Street, and trying to hit up some bars beforehand. I remember a less than warm welcome last time I was in town, and would expect as much now, but would love to shotgun a beer with a fanbase I respect.

You are barely gonna recognize the place if you haven't been since 2007, and I'd be shocked if any alumni you run into are less than welcoming. That said, drink the beer, have a great time, but I hope you leave disappointed.
