RE: Updated Computer Rankings-The Big Five of Virginia
CBS came out with their poll (https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...-rankings/) today with their rankings:
JMU #23
Liberty #43

Congrats to JMU for your quick start and the deserved top 25 ranking. This week, LU plays FCS Gardner Webb which LU should reach it's bowl eligibility 6th victory. BYU (CBS #32) plays SEC Arkansas this Saturday and the next Saturday BYU vs. LU in Lynchburg. If BYU beats Arkansas and LU beats BYU, that should tighten the Virginia rankings. The tilt being to JMU being undefeated, but much closer.

Updated after Week 7 for the Commonwealth's "Big 5". Just averaging the Sagarin and Massey rankings for the King of Virginia Title. JMU w/ the largest move down and ODU w/ the largest move up. And the Hokies are now in the caboose position.

JMU-54
Lib- 73
UVA-91
ODU-96
VT - 98

SP+ is much more modern in its approach, and looks at more measures/inputs than a scoreboard and who you played. Sagarin is simplistic, and puts way too much bias on who was on your schedule, favoring power conference teams, even those with poor results.

Swap UVA and ODU, and things will have settled in just about as i expected, for the long term- in VA pecking order going forward.
wonder how long until the ACC calls us to join, in order to help that leagues SOS. 04-cheers

Yeah and I've been a little surprised how low it's been on Liberty, now they're even lower than last week after barely surviving Gardner-Webb. They haven't been winning impressively against weak opponents and that'll hurt you in SP+. I bet they get smoked by BYU, but they almost beat Wake Forest so will be interesting to see a real test for them. I do think they probably are second best and probably by a wider margin than SP+ has them from the rest.

Also looking forward to seeing ODU vs GS, we'll see if ODU is steadily improving or if the beat down they put on Coastal was a one time thing.

Results of BYU-Liberty will be interesting. On the one hand, BYU doesn't look outstanding (4-3). They did beat Baylor, but also lost to Notre Dame, Oregon and Arkansas by a good margin. BYU probably is a good bit better than Gardner-Web though 03-lmfao

Walmart VT fans (especially in the valley and surrounding areas) are the ones we need to jump off their bandwagon.

This second step of evolution will have to wait until the 2025 VT game. And it is really the only chance for the next defeat of VT until 2032 unless Whit Babcock does us a solid and schedules JMU for 2026 also to replace the BYU game that was cancelled. All other years are full.

These singular opportunities are huge because hey are few and far between. The JMU program can’t elevate until they play big games and win big games.

I have given up on Whit scheduling JMU, I think he is more concerned about whether or not to fire his first year football coach

They aren't firing Pry... at least this year. Fuentes made their program a mess and they need to give Pry time to fix it. They are in a rebuild right now.
At the rate VT is going, scheduling them could actually benefit them more than us. We could be a higher rated team than them for the upcoming future (at least). While fan perception of the game would be big, they could actually be one of the worst teams in VA in the near future and may not be as big as we may see it currently.
I would say they could be afraid of scheduling us, but ODU has beaten them a few times recently.

ODU has 2 wins over VT. Most people would interpret “few” as 3 or more, however, your larger point stands.

VT is a mess, as is UVA. It’s time JMU and ODU to make hay and extend our advantage in the recruiting arena.

Updated after Week 8 for the Commonwealth's "Big 5". Just averaging the Sagarin and Massey rankings for the King of Virginia Title. JMU w/ the largest move down again. Liberty has vaulted into the lead on the strength of their big win over BYU. And ODU and the Hokies are now in a tie for last.

Liberty at Arkansas and JMU at Louisville will be really interesting matchups after the bye. I think there's a very solid chance both Virginia teams win those if Centeio is healthy.

Updated after Week 9 for the Commonwealth's "Big 5". Just averaging the Sagarin and Massey rankings for the King of Virginia Title. Not much movement with JMU and Liberty both having byes.

LIB- 63
JMU-68
UVA-84
VT - 98
ODU-110

ODU not in danger yet for relegation, but W&M lurking within striking distance at 134. They win out and defeat a good playoff team, they just might qualify for promotion.
